The figure does not include digital downloads.
Doesn't this sort of invalidate the entire article? I mean... If I judge by the title of the thread and article. Digital sales are rising because Internet usage is rising, or at least there's a correlation there.

Well no because
It suggests sales of hardware and software sold by retailers were down 11% on the year in November.

sold by retailers
There is not invalid about reporting on the decline of physical stores.
So, only regarding physical stores?
Then its not game sales in general.
Well of course they buy it at home with their moms credit card, they're not old enough to go out and buy it in the stores...
I'd like to see full numbers or the numbers from only digital stores. Brick and mortar stores are dying, specially now that consoles are getting their own download stores and internet speeds make it feasible and more convenient to just buy a game from the comfort of your couch and wait a few hours for it to download.
Hell, if they could partner with Amazon or Newegg something like that, you could buy controllers and accessories for your devices straight from the online store, and have them shipped to your doorstep.

I honestly can't remember the last time I went into a store to buy a game.

If anything its just that the title is misleading. Game sales themselves have not dipped, but at brick and mortar stores they have.
They're obviously not counting ipads, iphones and all the android tablets as gaming hardware - which is what they're being bought for in most cases

Their title is bullshit than.
US video game sales 'dip' despite mega-launches
Should be:
US physical video game sales 'dip' despite mega-launches
Misuse of statistics right there bitches
Sales would also improve if publishers would break free of the "Release every game ever in the same two month period" mentality that we see. Releases should be staggered throughout the year so people can actually afford to buy the games when they come out.

I've missed atleast one title I would like to have gotten at launch because 2 games I wanted came out weeks before then 2 games after so I had to sacrifice the singleplayer only one, Dishonored. And at this point I'll just wait for another sale.
THE END IS NEAR.
THE GREAT VIDCON CRASH OF THE CENTURY.
