Alright guys! It's time for part 2! Make sure you READ ALL OF THE RULES BEFORE ENTERING! The goal is to take old computers or computer hardware and turn it into something else useful. A few examples (that won't be accepted as entries) are fridge magnets from an HDD, or using an old tower as a footstool. Get creative! Rules:
- Each user is allowed one entry. - Please document your progress as thoroughly as possible with pictures and descriptions. - WRITE YOUR USERNAME ON A PIECE OF PAPER AND TAKE A PICTURE OF IT NEXT TO YOUR CREATION - (UNOFFICIAL) A community poll will decide on a winner - The winning entry will get a shiny new BF3 ACCOUNT or STEAM GIFT WITH A MAX VALUE OF $25. - In the event of a tie, there will be a sudden death poll comprised exclusively of members who voted in the original contest. - Please email your entries in a compressed archive to mtmod@yahoo.com with subject "Hardware Competition USERNAME" (ex. Hardware Competition MTMod) - Entries will be accepted from 7/23/2012 to 8/31/2012. All entries must be submitted during this time. The competition will be extended if needed. - It's completely up to you if you want to post pictures of your entry in this thread. You are welcome to just submit it via email.
Feel free to suggest more rules.
I have some stuff but they are made by my father though.. Can't say I didn't help with them though. I can enter with them though probably :v:
I'm hoping we can create new things. It adds to the spontaneous creativity. On a scale of 1-PBR, how hipster was that last part.
I once used an E-Mac as a boat anchor. [editline]24th July 2012[/editline] Gibe BF3 pl0x.
Hmmm, tempting. I might try mounting my old netbook to the bottom of a kitchen cabinet and hook up an FM transmitter so it broadcasts to the stereo also mounted to the bottom of the cabinet. Or I could use my Raspberry Pi for... Something. Webcam server to watch my car in the driveway? TO THE DRAWING BOARD!
I am actually building a makeshift air conditioning unit with 2 heatsinks, a peltier unit, some MDF, and a computer PSU. It's not done yet but i'm getting there.
Pepper;36918740']I am actually building a makeshift air conditioning unit with 2 heatsinks, a peltier unit, some MDF, and a computer PSU. It's not done yet but i'm getting there.
That thing would be extremely weak and inefficient if you plan to use a peltier to cool air.
The thing that I've got in my head requires a bit of fan power, and I would like to check out a big ass 140mm Delta Electronics one, but it uses a proprietary connector. It does run off 12V, so would I be right to assume that I really only need to splice the red and the black one to try it out? I'm glad to see so many people working on interesting projects!
That thing would be extremely weak and inefficient if you plan to use a peltier to cool air.
That won't stop me from having a go at it.
Definitly going to enter, I think I got something useful
Here's my entry: It's a vacuum cleaner, the SuckMore 3000 to be precise. Rather than showing just pictures of it, I made a lazily edited commercial: [editline]25th July 2012[/editline] I'll some more in-depth of what I did later, but it was really fairly simple.

Also how did you make it gain so much suction?
Loving the SuckMore trailer, Possible Sequel? Also how did you make it gain so much suction?
With the power of Delta!
This is why I love you guys. no homo
Speaking of delta, you reminded me to clean mine Let's just say, being an extractor fan for a bonfire didn't do it any good. I had to clean the thing thoroughly and put new oil on the bearings. The VRMs needed for this beast. It's all clean now and running fine. Just need some duct tape for covering the bearing.
Loving the SuckMore trailer, Possible Sequel? Also how did you make it gain so much suction?
I don't think it'd make sense to make a sequel right now, but I might make some major changes and it might make sense to make a new one at that point. This guy does the suction, though it's really not very powerful. A normal vacuum cleaner is like 350W, this one's doing 20W max: It's this one, though you can get more powerful models. 150CFM is still about 4 times as powerful as any other fan I have around.
Get four. Then turn your laptop into a quadrotor.
I don't even think you can get these in Denmark - I got this from my uncle some 7 months back, and I didn't have a real use for it until now, because of its proprietary connector.
Looks like a standard dell connector red is +12vDC Black is negative White is the tachometer Blue is PWM
Pepper;36933672']Looks like a standard dell connector red is +12vDC Black is negative White is the tachometer Blue is PWM
You're a bit late mate, I got it working some 10 hours ago. Thanks anyway.
I'm just wondering how many Delta fans i would need to create a hovercraft
I'm just wondering how many Delta fans i would need to create a hovercraft
Well, first of they'd have to be powerful enough to lift themselves, and then you'll have to have a buttload to actually utilize the excess lift. Or if you're talking about an actual hovercraft, a few less, though there'd be other problems.
I'm just wondering how many Delta fans i would need to create a hovercraft
I suppose that's a good idea, You'd need the most powerful ones you can find for a Hovercraft though. Probably about 2-3 to get the lift for a hovercraft, Lookup hovercrafts on youtube.
If the hovercraft is a box lid, then just one. I once made a hovercraft with my delta above and it had around a centimeter of clearance.
No official entries yet. Send me your creations!
No official entries yet. Send me your creations!
Ehh, I sent you an email. Should I also have the description of how I did it with it before it's considered?
i could probably turn my old crappy PSU/mobo into a nuclear accident with ease, i just need to plug it in and turn it on.
Please make sure your entries are emailed with the right title. That is my spam email address and I find entries by searching "hardware" in my inbox, because it would take much longer to search for them by hand.
