Not a big deal, I was never going to use the real money auction house anyway. People don't have to worry too much about spending money on an authenticator either thanks to their handy free smartphone app.
Hello, it's me, session hijack, what's an authenticator?
Hello, it's me, session hijack, what's an authenticator?
Its a thing that generates a random number for your account that you have to use when logging in. Its an extra layer of security.
blizzard debunked session hijack theory so
also even if I had an authenticator I would never use the RMAH.
I'd never buy things with it but sure if I got something really great I didn't need I'd give it a shot on the RMAH. Free money, whats not to love?

May I ask since when? I don't think I ever read anything in the news about that.
To that end, we've also seen discussions regarding the possibility of account compromises occurring in ways that didn’t involve these "traditional" methods -- for example, by "session spoofing" a player’s identity after he or she joins a public game. Regarding this specific example, we've looked into the issue and found no evidence to indicate compromises are occurring in this fashion, and we've determined the methods being suggested to do so are technically impossible. However, you have our assurance that we’ll continue to investigate reports such as these and keep you informed of important updates.
I'm okay with this.
Just like you can set it so certain guild ranks on WoW require an authenticator, its handy for preventing your guild bank from being cleared out.
Not to mention there is basically no excuse for not having one now, you can get them for free for iOS and Android, and there are unofficial PC authenticators floating about which work fine, like this open source one > http://code.google.com/p/winbma/
I am guessing the high incidence of account hijacks might have something to do with password leaks on other websites that are being cross referenced
My account was hijacked, but granted I was using a password that a few other accounts shared. Never played a public game.

Haha people still believe this.
isn't the authenticator free on mobile phones or something?
isn't the authenticator free on mobile phones or something?
On most phones yes. Some phones are not supported. But there is an open source authenticator for windows you can use. I've been using it for a while, and it works great. Obviously you gotta use it on a seperate computer, otherwise it won't really protect you much.

There's a free app. People without smartphones don't have this option.
edit:
Oh apparently they do, according to the previous poster
Didn't they say at BlizzCon that you could have a few free listings every month?
That means free dosh, right? (at about 19:05)

you could also buy a USB key authenticator thing
it's a little fob you bring around with you
