My current living situation is such that we cannot get landline internet. Our only options are wireless. Long story.
On the one hand, I have www.unlimitedlteadvanced.com, which for $75.99/mo will give me truly unlimited 4G LTE data over T-Mobile's network. The problem? I live in an area that is only "Fair" on T-Mobile's coverage chart, so performance might not be very reliable. The initial payment for the first month with this company is ~$390. That gets me a Netgear 4G LTE Modem as well as activation, shipping, SIM card, etc.
My other option is the AT&T Unlimited Plus plan with a wireless Hotspot as the primary device. This is $95/mo, and gets me AT&Ts network with max speed data until 22GB, then network-managed data after that. (Super low congestion area here so likely max speed all the time.) Initial cost is $145 and gets me my first month and a Netgear Unite Explore mobile hotspot. Or it's just $95 and I get an AT&T ZTE Velocity hotspot.
My AT&T coverage is superb, I've gotten >75mb/s down on my phone tethering. However, this would only be a mobile hotspot device, so wifi only, or a wireless bridge or USB tether + network bridge. Whereas the subcontractor on t-mobile gets me a high performance ethernet 4G modem. However, that 4G Modem does have external antenna connectors, so if the T-Mobile signal isn't very good, we can get high gain antennas to try and boost it.
EDIT: THIRD OPTION
NetGear LB1120 is $120 on amazon and is the same modem that unlimitedlteadvanced would give me. It's also compatible with AT&T. This way, I can get the performance of the device from unlimitedlteadvanced with the network performance of AT&T. I'll probably go with this option. The initial cost would be much less.
What do I do?
Do the third option but I’d always go back to the first, only because congestion is unpredictable. Tbh their both solid and I wish NZ did something similar but oh well
I neglected to mention that the unlimitedLTEadvanced plan is also subject to network management throttling after 24GB. No unlimited LTE plans are exempt from congestion throttling from any provider, major or subcontractor.
Do you have any WISPs out there?
Do you have any WISPs out there?
Nope. It's not quite a big enough problem here to demand WISPs. Best we've got is Outback Internet which does point-to-point wireless connections, and they require a big parabolic antenna and have huge setup fees.
Outback is a WISP but Christ their prices are insane.

I survived 5 months in rural Mississippi off of AT&T on an unlimited plan so I suppose I'd go with that.

Far worse coverage than you though, I usually topped out at 10mbps at home.
