Those weren't really all that weird.
I wonder who they wrote this article for. The site's called PC Gamer, but the only people I think would get laughs out of basic patch notes are people who don't understand any of the context of what's in the games. The only humorous ones on the list are the last three, because those are the only ones where the developers did more than list exactly what they changed.
They would probably seem wierd out of context, but since the context is about a patch related to the game they're not really wierd.

WOAH slow down there, that's just a little bit too ~wacky~ for me to handle
i prefer the april 27, 2012 tf2 update:

PC Gamer must have some looooooow standards for weird.
I guess Dwarf Fortress patch notes are too easy. I would've thought there'd be at least one listed as an honorable mention but disqualified because of the game.
Let's not forget this one

Dwarf Fortress always tops the list of weird patch notes for me.

Well they have low standards for quality articles, so I'm not surprised.

That's the point though really is that out of context they're rather nonsensical. Toxic Cargo Pants and replacing old rocks with new rocks, animals flying underwater or walking on top of it, or a janitor cleaning things up at the center of the world. These are things that literally only make sense in the context of fix bugs, but outside of that are strange concepts.

Even knowing the context this is fucking hilarious, I was expecting more stuff like this.
Here's a good twitter for weird changelog stuff

Those aren't weird. In the context of the game they're fine, and even without the context they just read like someone trying to spice up an otherwise boring wall of text.

And Crusader Kings

That's my point though. They're only humorous without context, but as a PC gamer I understand the context of all of this, even without having played any of the games the examples you've picked are from. Toxic Cargo Pants are probably just pants that give you a status effect or they have a thematic look to them, the old rocks probably either didn't have enough variation to keep them realistically unique-looking or they had sub-par collision or something, animals flying underwater is just fucked ai, and I'm 99% sure the janitor is just a system to clean up old objects or some shit to maintain performance. I don't have a clue how correct I am, but that's what I immediately associated upon reading the notes. I wasn't going "ha ha that doesn't happen in real life ha ha wow that's hilarious lol." All I need to know is the type of game they are, or in some cases just that it's a game in the first place, and I've got a mental association ready to go.
Hence my question: who did they right this article for?

If you aren't trying to figure out exactly what the patch is doing and just going off what the notes say, which is the whole damn point, they're bizarre and absurd. What you're doing is effectively the same as the guy who hears a joke then breaks down each component of it and tries to explain it in real life, thus just ruining it for everyone and making everyone bored.
There was a glitch in Crusader Kings II where Greek characters would scan their prisons to see if they wanted to blind/castrate them as it was locked to Greek culture. However, the characters would also scan people in their vicinity, and check over and over. Constantly.
This meant that near the late game there would be hundreds of Greeks making lists of people they could torture even if they weren’t in their prisons or even if they owned any land. Children would be checking this too.
It slowed down the game so badly that when Paradox fixed it, it was considered a massive boost to the game’s optimization

Maybe it's just me but I struggle to 'forget' the technical knowledge when reading these, so I find it hard to see it as a joke. If i knew nothing about technology, or games or whatever then I might find them funny, but otherwise I'm on the same boat at gk99.
