its not indie enough , it needs to be a 2d sidescroller with incredibly low resolution pixelated graphics, illustrating the story of a poor lonely soul in a black and white city and the poor guy is missing his girlfriend who disappeared years ago (and in the final battle you find out the girl got surgery to become a man (and in the ending credits we find out that the girlfriend is the boyfriend and the man, and there was no girlfriend in the end he just had split personalities))

Needs to be made in Unity, with stock assets too!
Seems to be forgetting that LoL was/is an indie moba.

Indie stands for more than just independent.
The UI looks like the bastard child of LoL's and Dota 2's :v:
Lol, when that assassin chick lifts her leg, her /whole/ ass check moves with her thigh.
I don't understand the logic behind game designers making more mobas. League and dota aren't popular just because they're mobas. They're popular because they're solid games. The general public doesn't want more mobas on the market because the moba crowd is already busy playing league and dota, and they're not going to give those games up any time soon.
Indie stands for more than just independent.
No it doesn't. Some people tried to change the definition when Activision went indie so they could keep their bragging rights, but indie still stands for independent.
I really don't know why all these MOBAs are looking so similar to dota and league. There's the obvious "we wanna copy what's popular" argument, but if you do it as superficially as this, you're just jumping into a saturating market and that's the opposite of playing it safe.
Like, the core component that people find fun about Mobas isn't the perspective, lasthitting mechanic, lane setup or even the multiplayer. It's the gameplay diversity of the characters. It's not like in FPS where everyone can shoot and maybe has 1-2 cute gadgets to add a bit of spice. It's not like in fighting games where everyone has a light and heavy attack, block and jump. The best character designs in Mobas feel completely different from each other in the way you play them, but they still have enough in common to be put into the same game.
I understand why some smaller devs have difficulty abstracting this kinda stuff, but even the big devs (with the possible exception of Blizzard? Kinda?) just seem to phone it in.
Why do all MOBAs have to be the exact same gameplay? Can we get one that doesn't only use your mouse and a few keys? I would play a first person MOBA.

Well Heroes of the Storm has no lasthitting mechanic, no items, more focus on objectives and many unique characters i.e Abathur or Murky so I'd say they're doing a fair job in making it different.

There's Transformers Online which is third-person but it doesn't really play as a MOBA and it looks fucking horrible because it's made with playing in a browser in mind.

That's what Gearbox is doing.
Well, way to kill yourself Lightbulb Crew.
Should have chosen a less shitty market to jump into.

there's one already afaik

also this looks clunky
I don't blame all these companies for trying to cash in on the MOBA/ARTS genre. It's dominated by LoL and DOTA2 and each of these groups have their own ideas for improving upon the genre. Unfortunately, I just don't like playing DOTA2 very much

They're fun games if you have the time to invest but people are going to pick one of the top tier games and stick with that because A) larger playerbase and B) ideally better features, balance and more content overall.

yeah i don't want to play a game that still has to go through what lol went through 2-3 years ago to get where it is now

MOBAs are the new WoW killer
christ almighty
turns out it looks like every other goddamned moba in the business well done

Actually, it was drow ranger constantly silencing me that made me rage quit. I'd give it another go but like you said, it's an investment.
Everytime I read about a new MOBA coming out my blood starts to boil. I can't help it.
Indie stands for more than just independent.
Indiana Jones?
"Indie" and "Independent" are two different things, at least they are now. Indie usually makes people think of a small number of people making games, independent just means companies that don't have any connections that take away developmental freedoms (such as a parent company) - companies can have a publisher for a and be independent as long as the publisher doesn't own said company. Also all indie companies are independent, but not all independent companies are indie - like the whole squares are rectangles thing.
Examples of Indie:
-Edmund McMillen
-Chinese Room
-those two stank hipsters who made Gone Home
Examples of Independent:
-Valve
-Bungie
-Gearbox
-Respawn (No, EA doesn't own them)
Anyway eww mobas are super gross
this has already been said earlier in the thread and even on other parts of the forum, but I feel like the biggest problem with new MOBAs is that they expect to be thrown out into the wild and just become popular
one of the biggest reasons, if not THE biggest reason why Dota and LoL are so popular is that they have had several years of balance and support to back them up and make them good games, shit, even the pro scenes they have help them balance the game.
it's kind of like the cod/battlefield thing. those two games dominate the "arcade military shooter" market and new entries into the genre never really catch on.
