• Raspberry Pi concept. Need help keeping things realistic.

Just wated to start by saying I have no idea if this is the appropriate section for this so apologies in advance. Ever since my beloved iPod classic died I have have sat around like a lazy llama and did shit all about it, but I seriously miss having a portable media player. After finding out about the Raspberry Pi I figured it would make for a nice, but chunky alternative that I could customise to my liking. So my idea was to repurpose old parts to create, or attempt to create my own portable media centre. Portability obviously tied to power requirements I guess. But unfortunately I do not have the knowledge essential to put this in realistic terms so I was wandering if anybody could confirm what I am trying to achieve, and no I am not at all concerned about the size of the device as I always have my backpack with me. So, here is the plan so far: 1. Purchase Raspberry Pi (Model B) and case of some description 2. Purchase the correct convertor for the 1.8" HD that still works inside the old iPod. I think it is a ZIF connector, I will look into this further. 3. Either purchase a small screen from recommendations or attempt to re-purpose my Samsung S3 screen if at all possible. 4. Set up linux on it, and tailor it for my purpose. Now for the probably unrealistic parts. I don't understand how I can calculate the power requirements, nor do I understand electronics in general and how well the Pi can scale with added power requirements. I want to know if it is possible to make it portable with a battery, and I am willing to purchase an entirely too expensive one if I have too, to make this work. Thanks for any assistance guys.
One of those Mini USB battery packs for smartphones would suit the purpose of power in your case. You'd need to do a lot of specialized work in order to get link to work how you want it to though.
Did you have to get banned! :v: Which link do you/does he mean? The power link?
You spelt llama wrong.
