So, facepunch, I have a problem. My parents bought the family an HDTV for christmas last year, and I was excited to plug in my Xbox 360 for some sweet gaming, (I'm usually a PC gamer btw, my PC is broken, but that's a different story. Don't hate on console players,) but when I booted up Black Ops, the delay was terrible. I was, and have been unable to play at all due to the lag. I know the root of the problem, as HDTV's resize incoming images, but the stupid Vizio my parents got had no game mode that would eliminate the lag. First of all, is the problem one that all HDTV owners experiance? And if the answer is no, is there an HDTV that has a game mode that stops the image resizing, or is there a third party perifieral that would stop this? We're in the market now for another HDTV to replace the one we have, and we'd prefer a middle of the line on price, unless that means no working game mode. Thanks for your help!

It might be named to things like TruMotion, or dynamic contrast
If disabling everything doesn't help, grab an LG LD450. Shit black levels/contrast, but IPS panel, extremely cheap and some of the lowest input lag of any HDTV.
Using an HDMI cable you should be able to output whatever HD mode(1080P or 720P) from the 360 to match your tv, your tv shouldn't be resizing anything.
New samsung D series is nice, and has a game mode. Same for the newer Sony's. (x700+) What cable are you using for the connection, and is plugged directly into the tv or into an amp or something?
Well, i've got a Turtle Beach, so i'm running my xbox through the component slots to get the audio into that. Let me try my HDMI and post results
What you could do is run HDMI to your tv for video, then run optical to your Turtle Beach for audio.
What kind of "HDTV" did you buy? Do you know the exact model?
Yeah, a mode really shouldn't be necessary. It should have a separate setup for anything essentially inserted directly into an HDMI slot. Also, never buy from the store. There's a pretty hefty price markup, so try Amazon instead. I think that it may be a wiring issue on your component cables which is entirely possible, just not probable.
What kind of "HDTV" did you buy? Do you know the exact model?
I ask because if it is a rear projection "HDTV", it's basically like playing on a projector/beamer. Which is really laggy.

Our Mitsubishi rear projection from 03 actually has virtually no input lag. Its old, so it only suppers 480p and 1080i, but it has a really good picture over component and DVI.

They did produce really good picture, though. But the point is, there are some exceptions, but always be skeptical at first.
It's a Vizio. Beyond that, I'm not sure. 42 inch LCD, and I'm not sure of the exact model. Also, HDMI actually RAISED the input lag, and tooling around with changing picture settings on the box made no workable change. Just 1-2 millisecond differences. :/ Also, I'm using my xbox cables, and their the same ones I've been using since 2007ish... Maybe it's them?

They don't get worse with age.
It would really help if you could supply the tv model. There must be a tag on the back of it or something. The HDMI thing works like this: You set your 360 output to match what your tv can handle. To do this though you need to know exactly what your tv's capabilities are- therefore you need to know the model. Otherwise you're just trying random settings that may be the wrong ones.
Okay, when I get a chance I'll check my model. Sorry guys, but I didn't have much time this week.
