So Ive been perusing the internet for a bit now without success, simply enough I need to know what computer I need for designing 3d models i'm running a low profile pc so simply upgrading wont work.
I'm looking for either a machine or a compiled list of hardware that is a must, with whatever else important thrown in, vie got a budge of about $1,300
Ive got a 19'' HD monitor so video-card must be able to compensate
-Thanks for any incomming help
This belongs in the "PC Building" section of Hardware and Software.
Assuming you want to be rendering your 3D models, you'll want a good processor. Let me put on together. (Custom built is the cheapest and best way to go).

Do you need an operating system and/or a keyboard, mouse, etc?

Included Maya and Windows 7. Comes out to be about $1,300. The Maya included is a classroom license, meaning you can't use it for anything you'd like to sell.
So you'll only be doing 3d models?
That won't require a monster rig.
A good quad core and a decent gfx card should do the trick

Jesus Christ, $500 for that license?

It's over $1,300 for an actual user-license.

Rendering takes up a lot of processor power. If he can afford it, why not?

thanks, sorry I didn't know there was a proper area for this, I'll keep that in mind next time, I already own maya so is there anything you would upgrade, also i forgot this in my first post, Im looking for something with hot swap drives and i already own a 700Gb & 2Tb HDD so a hard-drive doesnt need ot me added into the price, and ive already got a nice logitech laser mouse/keyboard set

I'd rather get an actual user-license then spend 500 bucks on something which i can merely practice on.
Question: whats stops people for simply torrenting it?
Question: whats stops people for simply torrenting it?
The anti-piracy protocols developers implant in their software. But those are usually cracked a month after the initial release of the software. If you put that together nothing is stopping you from torrenting it or in other terms pirating it. But I still think its better to buy it, at least you have something of a value then.
