Hey Facepunch, long time Windows XP user. Convince me to use Windows 7 rather than Windows XP. But you need to point out the flaws aswell as the good things. I'm looking for usability rather than aesthetics.
The aesthetics of windows 7 are really impressive.
just download it and use it you dolt
@Tropical I don't really care about that stuff, as I said in the main post. I'm looking for speed and usability. @Parky Isn't that illegal?

I'm not downloading over 1GB for something that I may not use.
I'm not downloading over 1GB for something that I may not use.
would you rather spend 30/100/whatever £/$/whatever for something you may not use?
Do it. Convinced yet?
Do it. Convinced yet?
That's pretty convincing right there, I tell you what. :wth:
More support. That would have to be convincing.
More support. That would have to be convincing.
For the time being, it's less support. Everything is still supported by XP, but not everything supports 7 yet. It'll only be more support after a few years.
no more reinstalliing every 6month because it is slowing down
For the time being, it's less support. Everything is still supported by XP, but not everything supports 7 yet. It'll only be more support after a few years.
What doesn't 7 support?
What doesn't 7 support?
Simcity 2000 runs pretty shittily... :(
Hey Facepunch, long time Windows XP user. Convince me to use Windows 7 rather than Windows XP. But you need to point out the flaws aswell as the good things. XP runs everything as an administrator which makes it very vulnerable to viruses to install without you knowledge. Support for it ends very soon which means it'll no longer be patched for security and such that 7 is. XP makes new hardware run like shit, it has lackluster 64bit support, and lack of DirectX10 and 11. XP was made for technology in 2002, not 2010. Windows 7 is clean, simple, secure, and fast. It's proven in benchmarks to be faster than Vista and about the same as XP. Even without antivirus software, it's pretty secure. Windows Firewall and User Account Control prevent anything getting in and installing, and in the rare case something does get in, UAC will alert you that something is trying to install itself. 7 is easy to learn if you're coming from XP, and in fact, new features such as snap and the new taskbar will make stuff you do a lot easier and faster. Start menu search is really useful for finding programs and pictures and whatever else you don't want to dig for. The only downside that i've had is that Vista will boot up faster than 7 for me. But it's only a 10 second difference so I could care less. If you're into making themes and you get 64bit you're going to have a hard time, because there's no free working 64bit resource editors out there. If you run old programs (Such as AutoCAD 2000, old Windows 3.1/95/98 games, 64-bit won't run them. Other than the downsides which are really minor, 7 is a good choice. XP is just horrible compared to it.
Windows 7 - comes with more drivers out of the box and through Windows Update than any other version of Windows - plays DVDs out of the box - includes a fairly competent backup manager - supports AHCI out of the box - has a more functional taskbar than XP - has superior security out of the box than XP (better Windows firewall, UAC) Note this is comparing 7 to XP, not Vista.
^ What he said is also very true.

No need to convince you. Just try it out and see for yourself.
Biggest issue when switching from XP is that the Control Panel and other settings menus have been changed, so it might take you a bit to find everything. But it's not so bad, everything is laid out more or less logically (more so than XP IMO) and many options can found under more than one heading when both headings fit (e.g. Power Options can be found under both "System and Security" and "Hardware and Sound").

It's made by Microsoft, it has to be good.
No.
For the time being, it's less support. Everything is still supported by XP, but not everything supports 7 yet. It'll only be more support after a few years.
you're such a fucking xp fanboy, and i have one thing to say in response to your comment DX10/DX11
You should really try it, and not be ignorant like downloading 1gb will be the end of the world, I tried it, love it, will get it when it is very cheap.
Support for it ends very soon
You have a very funny definition of "soon". As in, longer than VALVe soon.
you're such a fucking xp fanboy, and i have one thing to say in response to your comment
I'm using 7 you retard. That doesn't mean I'm going to be an idiot and start saying things that aren't true about XP/7.

Just installed it. It looks like sex, it feels like sex (Might just be my cd drive, its vibrating more than a sex toy right now), and it smells like sex (might just be me fapping). Get it. Its wonderful.
Biggest issue when switching from XP is that the Control Panel and other settings menus have been changed
Is there any way to switch the Control Panel to the "classic mode"? The mode where it lists every possible option in one screen instead of that stupid category mode? [editline]09:03PM[/editline]
you're such a fucking xp fanboy, and i have one thing to say in response to your comment DX10/DX11
I have more fingers than games that require Dx10/11. [editline]09:03PM[/editline] On one hand.

Oh, I just thought that only made the icons smaller. Not actually change how the whole thing works. :v:
Another usability feature over XP: full access to NTFS permissions settings without having to logon to the hidden Administrator account.
