On multiple platform or not.
For me, i had:
Worms Armageddon (that i had on steam for preordering Worms Revolution but i allready had the box version of it.)
Broken Sword: Director's Cut (that i had on steam that i probably got that game on HB, but i also got for 3usd for a random game on Gog.)
Duke Nukem 3D (was free on Gog, but i bough the Megaton Edition because of the expansion packs.)
Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee (got that game in a Oddworld pack on Steam, but i have the Ps1 version and a box copy on pc and i somehow got that game for free on Gog.)
Tomb Raider 5 (Box copy on PS1 and steam that i got for in a Tomb Raider pack)
Gunstar Heroes (I somehow didn't know i had it in the Megadrive collection on Steam, but i bought the 3ds port because i loved that game)
Street Fighter 4 (I bought SF4 on Steam, then i bought Super Street fighter 4 on Xbox 360 because there were rumor it won't be on PC, then got that game for my first 3DS game and also bought Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition when it was finally released on PC)
Half Life 2, I actually bought it three times because of the two re-releases, the gameplay was exactly the same but with different maps each time, and the last two releases were substantially shorter than the first. Kind of a ripoff tbh, especially since they only came out a few years after HL2.
GTA5 because I originally intended to buy it on PC but it was already purchased as a gift for xbox360
fucking annoying too because I'd rather have played it on PC first, so 2nd time was for online at that point
[editline]28th October 2017[/editline]
I originally had TF2 (Orange box) on the xbox but people kept running servers with the gravity low, basically ruining the game for something that was legitimately very obnoxious.
it was annoying beyond fuck so I just got it on PC (so, again, orange box)
I have DNF as well (Not my purchase) on xbox360, but it was in a humble bundle so I got it on PC too so I could get another game and then never did anything with it
GTA IV - I bought it for Xbox 360 soon after it came out, the disc was ruined as a result of moving the console. So I bought it again. Then I stopped using consoles, upgraded to PC's and bought it again on steam
And then GTA V came out
I remember getting gta4 twice, but never really played it much on PC
It's always disappointing to transition from console to a serious PC. You end up like, seeing how much better it is and then its a matter of "Well fuck, could have played a better version"
Funnily enough, gta4 on PC is waaaaay the inferior version.
Two notable ones:
- Driveclub on the PS4. Bought the disc version of it at launch back in 2014. I eventually got back into the game and bought the digital version late last year - because I was sick of having to swap around discs on my PS4, and it was only $20? Then this year, I bought Driveclub VR, for PSVR on the PS4. But to be fair, original Driveclub didn't have VR functionality.
- GTA V. Oh boy. Got it on Xbox 360 back in 2013. I then got it again (on disc) when it was eventually released on PS4; can't remember which year. Anyways my original PS4 shit itself so I had to send it back for warranty to be replaced, but my GTA V disc was still in the console (couldn't eject it). I ended up completely forgetting about getting the disc back, so I had to resort to buying just the disc (not the case as I already had that) from someone on EBay. Would be crazy if it was the same disc that I lost in the first place. But yeah; ended up buying it three times in the end.
GTA V - I played it on PS3 first and then on PC many years later. I don't even regret it too much, it's a great game. It's just GTA Online that horrible.
Half Life 2 - First the game by itself and then the Orange Box
Overcooked, Hacknet, Broforce, Spec Ops: The Line, Nidhogg, Infinifactory, Snakebird, Psychonauts, Grow Home, Antichamber - Bought them on Steam and later got them in various bundles. They're all great games though.
GTA 5 (360 version then to PC)
GTA 4 (360 to PC, though my PC at the time could barely run it :v: )
GTA:San Andreas (ps2 version then PC)
TES:Oblivion (played a ton of it on the 360 until my save was deleted, then got it for PC)
Fable (original, and lost chapters, both on xbox. then bought the retail PC version a few years later)
I've bought every single GTA multiple times, besides LCS|VCS. That's console and PC though.
Command and Conquer Generals, I played that so much I fucked the disc and had to buy it again. Then somebody stole my new copy, and I had to buy it again. I also bought The First Decade which also had Generals on it so technically I've bought Generals 4 times on the same bloody platform.
Portal 2 - First on Xbox 360, then PC
TES IV: Oblivion - same as portal 2
Supreme Commander. I've bought this game 3 times.
I purchased the main game when it came out.
Then Forged Alliance. I lost both copies, this was before they were on Steam.
So I bought the Gold pack which had both games retail.
I lost that copy.
By this time it had finally come out on Steam so I purchased it again for the final time.
I have copies of Oblivion, Borderlands, and The Orange Box for both the Xbox 360 and PC
Bought RCT about 3 times. First time it went missing, second time the disc blew up while I was playing it, shards even flew out of the disc drive, and we opened it up to see all the shards just stuck inside. So bought it a third time :v:
Bought Oblivion twice, once boxed, once Steam. I've bought prolly three or four different copies of Diablo 2 over the years, Diablo 3 twice for PC and PS4, few others.
Star Wars Jedi Knight series bundle: Bought it for all of my friends when it was cheap during a holiday sale. I had Jedi Academy on CDROM for years before, but the CDs were getting unreliable, and I never had any of the previous games.
Duke Nukem 3D: Had the atomic edition on a bootleg CD-R for years until it succumbed to disc rot, and became completely unreadable. Bought a copy of the Megaton edition for myself, as well as several for my friends. Glad I did before Gearbox waved their lawyer cock, and had it taken off steam. I later bought World Tour, but on the condition that I wasn't paying $20 fucking dollars (was able to get it half-price through some deal).
GTA V: Judging by the sheer amount of people who probably bought it on a console before switching to PC, you just know Rockstar/T2 made a fucking killing. And they still want more of your money. I bought it on 360 at first because it was all I had. My friends on the other hand always played on PS3, so I switched over when I was able to get my hands on a console (Console was second hand with the game pre-loaded on it though, so I didn't pay a dime). I later bought the PS4 version as part of a bundle that included it with the console. Then, once I got a PC that was worth two shits, I finally got the PC version on steam.
Halo Combat Evolved: Got it on original xbox back in the day, and later on PC for the modding scene.
Unreal: Had the original release CD back in the day before it got cracked due to me being an idiot kid. I later bought the Unreal Anthology to replace that disc, and then bought it for all my friends on steam like I did with JK and Duke3D.
Cities Skylines: A copy for me, and a copy for a friend who was having a shitty day.
Max Payne (PC,iOS,PS3)
GTA 3/Vice City (PS2,PC,iOS)
Budokai 1 & 3 (PS2,PS3) Got the HD collection
Oblivion (PC,PC) Had the base game on disc, later got GOTY edition on Steam)
Skyrim (PS3,PC, PC) Got the Special Edition on PC for free.
Half-Life (PC,PS2) Got the PS2 version for Decay
Call of Duty 3 (PS2,360)
Call of Duty 4 (PS3,PC)
Doom 1 (iOS,PS3,360) This isn't counting all the source ports I have on just about all of my devices. For those I ripped the IWAD from the iOS version
The Sims 2 (PC,PC) EA upgraded everyone's Sims 2 on Origin to the Ultimate edition with all expansions.
Duke Nukem 3D Megaton Edition (PS3,PC) I got the latter because Gearbox was going to pull it for their inferior version
Zuma Deluxe (PC,PC) I honestly forgot I had it on disc before getting it for my sister on Steam
A bunch of games that I had boxed versions of I rebought on steam (mostly when they went on sale):
- Oblivion (also had on 360)
- Sid Meier's Pirates!
- Age of Mythology
- Spore
- Probably some I can't remember
Also had the Orange Box for 360 and PC.
I frequently rebuy good games that are already on Steam if they get released on Gog. Ys Origins, Ys: Oath in Felghana, and Terraria are three that come to mind but I know there's a couple others as well. I have no issues giving more money to those devs and supporting Gog in the process since it's a better service than Steam.
Vietcong. Original copy and then two copies of the Purple Haze edition. (One went missing then re-appeared)
SWAT 4 about 3 times.
Aliens Vs Predator 2 - 4 times. First 2 copies were broken by my brother, then I bought two of them dirt cheap in case it goes missing. One of my all time favourites that I don't want to risk losing.
I bought mgs 3 3 times. Once I bought it as subsistence and then the disk got scratched, then again as part of the essentials collection, and then again in the HD collection.
Does it count if you gifted the spares away through steam? 'cause if so I've bought 100% Orange Juice a minimum of 9 times, not even counting character DLC.
I've also bought Axiom Verge on PC, WiiU and Vita.
GTAV, unfortunately.
GTA Vice City and San Andreas
Dead Rising
Halo 1, 2, 3, and Reach
TESIV: Oblivion
Fallout 1, 2, Tactics, 3 and DLC, New Vegas and DLC
Telltale's The Walking Dead
Technically MGSV TPP and GZ, because they were both given away for free multiple times and I bought them both when GZ came bundled with TPP on TPP's release
Rocket League, because Sony is a piece of shit and won't allow crossplay so they pretty much forced me to get it on PC.
There's a bunch of others but I don't want to go see what unredeemed Humble Bundle keys I have or try and count all the games I got on GOG through GOG Connect.
Some of them were bought in gaming magazines first, most cases at least...
Deus Ex - from cheap Deus Ex Anthology created by local publisher, then from gaming magazine (CDA) and then GotY on GOG.
Giants - Citizen Kabuto (cheap boxed direct2kiosk release? or whatever) then on GOG.
Fallout 1+2+3 - various gaming magazines, then got for free on GOG as "Classic" versions before they handled series into Beth's hands to sell under their brand.
Dungeon Lords - bought retail version (forgot if it was original or Collectors' Edition with some patches applied) then Steam version which is last one.
Fallout 3 GotY - funny one. I bought PL version but since GfWL was not available in my country our publisher removed GfWL from the game AND replaced Securom DRM with... StarForce. Why? No idea.
Divine Divinity - speaking about Starforce.... grabbed retail box for $3 and got blast but then I could not run the game again no matter what (BSoD), tried another copy from gaming magazine and same result, then bought GOG copy for like 15cents and managed to finish it. Fantastic game, worth waiting.
Supreme Commander + FA and Company of Heroes+OF+ToV - not funny dealing with patches that need to be applied in exact order. Burn me out before even reaching tutorial. Retail, then Steam obviously.
Neverwinter Night 2 Gold (all addons) - I felt lucky grabbing last boxed edition available (you could only buy vanilla and maybe 1st addon, no chance for other two). And then you start patching process that need connection to some borked server that threw dozen of errors. I played through OC with raised blood pressure expecting errors, bugs and problems at any moment. And then bough GOG version.
Two Worlds for PC and then for Xbox360 for achievements. Lemme tell you that game runs like ass and I had to use some kind of "console" to enable fog and turn on some stuff to make it doable to play. And then achievement for visiting 104 locations/dungeons bugged out and that's how I cured myself from achievement hunting forever...
I've bought Dragon's Dogma 3 times. Original, then Dark Arisen, then the PC port
Halo: Combat evolved
Microsoft train simulator
The original disks got scratched. :v:
and x2 Primal Carnage "R.I.P" for a friend.
Red Fcation Guerrilla. First for Xbox 360, second time for PC. Oh and the Orange Box.
Also Halo Wars (360->PC).
I can think of a few games but the most notable would probably be Kameo: Elements of Power
I bought that from a guy I knew for $5, it was the first thing I purchased for my 360. Then I got home and it turns out I got ripped off because inside the case was only a disc 1 of a Thundercats DVD. Had to buy the actual game later from someone who wasn't a total shit.
battlefield 1942 anthology and battlefield 2. for me and my brother :)
Worms 3D for Playstation 2,
I broke my first copy by rage hitting my playstation mid-game,
lesson learned when I had to fork another $100 for a new copy.
I purchased Oblivion like 4 or 5 times.
I purchased it a little after release, then later on got Shivering Isles.
My disk ended up getting scratched up, so I bought a bundle with Shivering Isles and Oblivion.
Then I bought the Anniversary bundle which had Knights of the Nine.
Then I purchased a delux edition that came with all the small DLC way later on.
Finally I purchased it on steam for 5 bucks because I couldn't be arsed to put in three different disk while installing it.
Skyrim, Morrowind, and Oblivion, I got the original resale of Skyrim on disk, bought Morrowind and Oblivion on STEAM, and then got them in The Elder Scrolls Anthology
and both hd remakes of Twilight Princess and Windwaker
