I recently bought an Acer Travelmate Timeline. There are various models available. They all have the advantage of around 8 hours battery (in moderate usage). The hardware is variable. I bought one with an Core i3-350M, 4GB RAM, nVidia GT330M (1GB), 320 GB HDD, 13'' LED-Backlight TFT (anti-glare). I spent 800€ on it (~ $900). Other combinations are available with e.g. a core i7 mobile, 8 GB ram, bigger HDD and better graphic card. But then it'll cost > $1000.
