some of the backgrounds are really disgraceful
they need to ditch whatever the upscale filter is they're running it through and just straight port them from the gamecube version.

what are the mouse issues?
i actually really like the original control scheme paired with the mouse.
people would have to completely recreate the backgrounds which means making entire 3d environments and rendering them. it's not likely to happen any time soon (or at all).
what is more likely is getting the gamecube textures ripped and putting them in the remaster
but considering theres a few mods (texture and model swap) for this already despite being out like an hour is promising

Who knows, maybe someone can apply a filter that at least makes things look cleaner instead of being shitty from Capcom's lazy work with the backgrounds. No one's going to have easy access to every single camera angle artwork obviously, but 1080p with the grainy original backgrounds in their compressed states wouldn't be all that much better.

wouldnt be much better, but it would still be better
Eh, even as a skeptic before release, it's undeniable that certain areas came out looking worse instead of improved. I should have believed!
That said; I love how the game runs in 60 FPS, it's a very nice addition and uneniably the best improvement made to the game. And the consoles only run in 30FPS.
What are your guys thoughts on the widescreen format? I'm not sure if I like 16:9 or 4:3 better. I keep swapping.
my two biggest issues are
the lighting change and the bloom added to everything
the bloom makes the image hard to look at. everything's shining in your eyes. especially if you have the lights off and play in fullscreen mode. which is how you should be playing a horror game.
and the lighting difference gives off a completely different atmosphere. it's just not as dank and lonely as it was before. they've given it too much LIFE. it's a murky, decaying mansion full of the dead. a lighting overhaul has rejuvenated it and made it feel more lived in.
just take a look. both captured by me. gamecube emulated on top vs REmaster on bottom.

the biggest shame is that it seems like they had access to slightly larger source background textures than present on the gamecube disc, but still ran them through a filter to make them look worse. so we won't be able to use their sources, unfiltered, because we don't have them. it's such a shame.

but seriously. why does everything glow? it hurts to look at
and why are the colours different?

the character lighting is fine but i definitely see what you mean about the difference in environmental lighting

Its like im looking at a Youtube video at 360p.
I like how that shitty shacknews "review" completely failed to mention the glaring issues with the backgrounds.
I like how that shitty shacknews "review" completely failed to mention the glaring issues with the backgrounds.
A lot of reviews are apparently ignoring some of the technical factors of the re-release besides "oh yeah, 1080p widescreen with new controls woo", and then criticizing the game itself for apparently not aging well in the eyes of modern reviewers.

See, while I can tolerate the backgrounds, it's an actual legitimate argument you can raise against the REmaster. Instead, Shacknews criticizes the gameplay, which is more or less untouched and is still classic.
Only a few sites seem to have touched on the visuals at all. I think PC gamer may have mentioned the REmaster was not as good as it should have been It's a tricky topic because after playing for about an hour, some locations (Likely the ones that got special attention) do look really nice! But that shark room is horrendous. I wonder if that location in particular posed special hardships in particular.
EDIT: Again, I can't stress that 60 FPS is the best thing to come out of the REmaster. I was really worried about performance issues going by the system requirements, but despite not meeting the requirements, I'm getting butter smooth performance with no audio sync issues. However, I only run 1600X900 because of my monitor.
One game play change I may have noticed; you used to be able to burn multiple zombies if they died on top of each other with one kerosene usage. It was a strategic move to make the most of the limited kerosene. I wasn't able to do that in the REmaster, but maybe I didn't quite stack the zombies well enough.
I got exactly what I expected out of this re-release.

That wont fix a single thing honestly.
the HD release really does away with pre-rendered and FMVs for the level design. Thats why everything looked so fucking good. No amount of texture work will fix that. Seriously, the lack of the FMV shit in rooms fucks over a lot of atmosphere. Especially outdoor areas where the entire backgrounds were these fucking 10/10 FMVs playing a realistic looking woods or grass. Instead its realtime 3D models.
Cant mod in that shit, hell that would require a full team of professional on payroll essentially REmaking Remake. I kind of always expected this HD remake to not be as good looking the second I heard they would remake rooms with realtime 3D.
It sucks but the HD REmake isnt THAT bad, its still fucking great looking, its just compared to REmake GC its not as hot, but then again, thats really hard to do.

They increased the resolution of the backgrounds in photoshop and used the reduce noise filter, putting all the sliders to 100%. That is nasty.

Jesus. Overall, I think the mansion looks good (with some exceptions). But that's uh... that's something else.
