first of all, sorry for my bad english, and I am not sure if this is the correct place to ask this I am owner of one of this msi (gt70 2OD) and after reading... I readed that the psu of 180W (fucking large psu) isnt enought for the laptop, after investigate for a time, discovered that the jack 5.5mm cant allow more than 180W my questions are: the jack 5.5mm cant allow more than 180W?? if the jack 5.5mm can allow more... should I buy a 240W psu?? if the jack 5.5mm cant allow more... you suggest to buy an adapter for allow more power and buy the 240w psu?? and the final question If u dont recomend buy a new psu, how about buy a "bad" battery for allow more power and keep fine the original battery?? thanks for the help for know what to do, if u ask, why u think this? well, the 780m run at 705mhz (which is pretty good), but with the battery runs at +800mhz which is better, and if i can improve the performance just buying a better psu (with an especial adapter or not), or buy another battery, it will be so epic... I am ready for another chances
Have you tried using the "high performance" power setting with the AC adaptor? I don't think another PSU could help, it sounds like the laptop is flawed and there's nothing you can do about it.
yup i tried but the oly thing the the "high performance" does is put all the hardware runing at max speed (which is 3.3Ghz the cpu and 705 mhz the gpu), but the cpu isnt the problem my suspicions starts when I saw the speed of the gpu with and whitout battery, i am just asking, maybe is make to work on this way, but... u can call me paranoid, maybe is just me thinking which isnt [editline]8th April 2015[/editline] and, i forgot to say that other computers, like clevos and alienwares, come with a 240w psu
Are you using the PSU that came with the computer? I would think they would give the optimal PSU with the computer.
yes i am using it
A 180W PSU should be fine for the 780M because it has a TDP of 122W, but your battery might not charge very fast while under really heavy load.
in fact when i have battery + psu, sometimes, the battery discharge (when windows decide the mitical "connected and not loading"), and how do u say it load sooo slowly [editline]8th April 2015[/editline] but anyway, for what all of u say, i shouldnt have any problem (which havent got any), but just made me doubt due to the battery connected and the gpu running at +800mhz [editline]8th April 2015[/editline] so, in conclusion, the best option, if i want to do something, is looking for a "bad" battery, and use it for win the permormance that the hardware win with it
You cant really get a better psu. Exept for fake Chinese ones, which are probably worse. 700 to 800mhz doesnt make a whole lot of difference anyway. If you are serious about gaming. Buy a desktop next time.
have a good desktop, a little old (580 ti) but good dektop
[QUOTE=fishyfish777;47482097]A 180W PSU should be fine for the 780M because it has a TDP of 122W, but your battery might not charge very fast while under really heavy load.[/QUOTE] With a CPU TDP likely >45W, plus a 10W+ LCD panel, plus all the other miscellaneous shit, 180W is really cutting it fine, explaining the slight underclock. OP if you care mostly about GPU performance, you could try underclocking the CPU (or disabling any turbo shit/etc). Or use an external monitor and ensure the laptop's panel is completely off
