My friend was just banned permanently for posting a topic on one of the forums. The mod banned him for 'not posting the topic on the right thread'. Keep in mind, it was in the right forum - just, there was a non-sticky thread (on page 2) that he was meant to apparently post on. This is ridiculous...he should have gotten maybe a 24 hour ban or something, not a 'goodbye forever'. I look on other threads as well, and users get banned for the most ridiculous things.
I dunno, I really dislike this community (sometimes) :P. It seems if you have an opinion or suggestion about anything, you will get heavily dumb rated, and the mods will probably join in too. :(
Also, is there anyway for him to appeal? He had a few threads open, and now he can't edit them or anything. Thanks in advance.

Your friend could make a post in the refugee camp.
It really isn't that hard not to get banned, just don't post dumb things. Read the stickies above each subforum, and use common sence.

It's common sense to read and understand the rules for each section of a forum before you start posting on any message board. Because the rules are strict, it helps keep away the lowest common denominator of the online population from the site, you know the kind with their 'le epic trole XD' and their image macros and memes.
I just don't see why video replies = ban
or why ANY MEME EVER = ban

He didn't violate any rules of the sticky thread, and the topic he discussed certainly wasn't offensive. The only problem was that he made a thread (not familiar with the forum) and then was banned for not posting in a previously made topic (which was on page 2?). It's a pain to have duplicate topics, but a permanent ban for something so accidental is ridiculous... :c

Because the forum is way older than you've been here.
It's the lack of said memes, video replies, reaction gifs, signatures, and the like that keep this place a lick more refined.
If you think it's bad now, you weren't around when smartness was a thing and you could get permanently banned for bad spelling and grammar.
Out of curiosity, was it a hacker report in the Rust section? If so, not surprised it happened as the section rules sticky clearly says not to make threads "reporting" hackers. So many people do it anyway that I'm not surprised they started putting their foot down.
If you think it's bad HERE, tell your "friend" to try SomethingAwful. At least our accounts are free.
i would like to motion for smartness to be brought back effective immediately
all in favor say aye

He is sitting right next to me. We know that if he made a thread going 'omg I got perma-banned on this account' he would probably be banned for ban evading. Plus, he has active topics on the account (which he doesn't want to lose...)
Banning back in time was hardcore, i remember that i got permabanned for saying starfish or speedboat
Don't act like a retard, read the rules, and use common sense. Then you won't get banned. It's that simple.
However, when you do get banned, there's the option of posting in the refugee camp. If you calmly explain what might have went wrong, there's a high chance the mods will listen and unban you.

"I won't do it again"
"Delete it and I'll post in the right place"
etc
super easy to get unbanned
getting banned is also easy to avoid, but you have to get used to it. Also, this thread will change nothing, it's been like this since forever ago, and it honestly works.
I just don't see why video replies = ban

we aren't 4chan / 9gag
we don't want that crap here. A meme reply isn't an actual reply that's even worth bothering with.
because racecar
people who get banned on here r usually idiots
Just treat these forums and everyone on them like a joke. Works wonders.

Tell us exactly what he was banned for, including what his thread was about

i want to see how stupid he was

Because they're terrible low quality recycled jokes. Facepunch would degrade into reddit quality.

"This funny Youtube video made me snigger"
Permaban!!!
I personally feel like it's too hard to get banned. I've only been banned 20 times, two of which were perma.
Honestly I think it has gotten harder to get banned.
Well, you've certainly done the right thing. You've started a thread in Fast Threads, whining about a ban.
That'll show 'em.
When I saw that OP could not even use the right form of "too" (wayyyy to easy), I knew that he will not last long.

Link us to the topic, then we'll talk
If you don't like it here, then feel free to leave. No one is forcing you to stay.
This may be the LONGEST time Iv'e been without being banned.

3 1/2 years.
Seriously, it's not hard.
That's why facepunch is so good, the ultra-nazi ban system keeps all the filthy shit posters out from our forums. When you think about it, that's what Hitler did too.
Hahaha, go ahead and cry about it.
