I don't know what Shacknews is complaining about, seems like a really cool bonus to me.
The problem for me is that I played the original on the Xbox, but will be picking this up for PC. Maybe I'll play through Borderlands on the pc before this comes out.
You could just download a save and make some folders :v:

It's ALWAYS on sale so just buy it during the Summer sale.
Neat, actually. The Mass Effect games do something somewhat similar to this with their games, and it's pretty cool to see the two games interact like that, to me at least.

What the Mass Effect games do is on a VASTLY LARGER scale than what this is doing. This is just saying "Oh, you played the first game and kept the save? Here's a little bonus just for your loyalty as a fan".
Oh YES!
It's pretty cool when game devs do this.
Fuck. Now I have to download it again.

I bought it during last years sale and I'm still yet to really give it a chance.

What does Mass Effect do?

Pretty much continues directly from your save game. So all the choices you made affect what happens in the next game, Who lives and the such.

A lot of the gaming press is over-cynical
If they're having such low expectations all the time, I'll do the same to them review-wise

That's pretty interesting. I've never played a Mass Effect game before.
What does Mass Effect do?
All the quest-related choices you make in each game are recorded in the save file and each game afterwards takes said choices into account when you play, which can completely alter the course of later quest chains in said games. Your character's choices pretty much alter the course of galactic history. That's a helluvalot different from the "you played the first game, here's a hat" thing Borderlands 2 is doing.
Character customization?
FUCK YEEEEESSS.
This will be a day one buy for me unless they majorly fuck it up (like you can't see the good ending unless you buy a 15 dollar DLC).

Like I said, "somewhat similar". Never said it was the exact same thing or even very similar. Just kind of the same idea, which I still think is pretty cool to have in the game.

I doubt it will expand too much on Borderlands' customization; you'll be able to change colors and not much else. There will probably be different skins too, seeming as we're getting skins for owning BL1.

Oh no, they've shown off some of the results before. It allows you to get insipidly and disgustingly pink and...
...not a whole lot else, unless you count lots and lots and lots and lots of greeeeeeeey.
I remember Black Box doing this when NFS:MW was released. If you had an Underground 2 save file, you would get bonus credits.
