Last Shot The Comic IMVironment - a worthy replacement somewhere?

Many years ago, i remember using yahoo messenger with an IMViroment called "Last shot". Basically, when you IM'ed someone, different images would appear as in a comic strip through the conversation. When you used some of the default smileys, the persons in the comic had the same reaction. This could potentially make some hilarious conversations, while being a shit-ton entertaining.

A small (and the only) example i could find, was this:

The problem however, is that yahoo messenger only had this in the early v5 (around 2001 i guess). When trying to use v5 today, i'm forced to update to the newest messenger, thus making this IMViroment impossible to use.

Is there a way to make this work again? If not, anyone know of some program that has the same function? The fun-factor is too high to just disappear like this.
