This could be good i guess?
If someone took DayZ, polished it, and made it not an ArmA2 mod it would be a p cool game and probably a financial hit. Maybe that is what they are going for.
i'm just seeing it now though
all the low level players starting out with a melee weapon or some kind of weak pistol when a high level player just comes and blows them away with a BFG9000 or something
or just drawing all the zombies to the low level players and letting them kill them
what i really want to know is are the zombies going to be slow or the fast kind.
slow ones = scary
fast ones = tense
for ME, that will make the game.

Looks to me like they're running there. And they said zombies will move at a speed that's just slower than at what you can move so they're not gonna be the super slow kind.

I don't understand why people find slow zombies scary in any way at all. It's like playing tag against a fat kid. That's why I didn't give a fuck about "The Walking Dead". Zombies shambling around and moving at a slow hustle is so anticlimactic and uninteresting. I watched the whole first season of that show and found myself yelling "ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME JUST JOG AND THEY CAN'T CATCH YOU" most of the time. 28 Days Later or 2004 DOTD hit it on the head. I don't fear window shoppers in a mall; I fear vicious, bloodthirsty, fast, killing machines. I'm not afraid of starfish, I'm afraid of lions.
Before anyone starts leaping to conclusions; this game has allegedly been in development before DayZ.

That's how the slow zombies get you, they just keep on walking and while you're busy running away looking for an exit or a clear path and unfortunately reach a dead end, you're surrounded by them.

agreed about the whole jog to saftey thing
but i always pictured the slow types of zombies as an unstoppable walking death
they will follow you to the ends of the earth and wont stop no matter what
and when you have a hoard of slow zombies chasing you (albeit slowly)
they won't all be stopped, they WILL get you
they will break down walls and walk through fire to find and kill you
(also picture them being a lot stronger than running zombies)
The slow ones never stop. The "fast ones" that were invented by 28 days later starved to death after a while.
Slow ones never stop. You get tired, you need food and water and supplies. Slow zombies horde and go after you forever.

Roaming across maps of 200-400 square kilometres
Unless people are hacking or have some magical item it's not going to be a problem and chances are if you PK a shit load you'll suffer a negative buff.

Or you go read The Walking Dead and note that the walkers atrophy and become weak.
I'm following WWZ shit since thats infinitely better than TWD.

and while you're fighting off the hoard in front of you
the hoard from behind has been making it's way towards you all this time and while you're not looking they grabbed you
they are also quiet, they shuffle and walk so if you think you're safe and decided to sleep for the night inside a house, those zombies have gotten in and are walking up to you while you sleep
i know as a heavy sleeper, this will be my downfall.
Which is why moving light, fast, and portable is easier than trying to barricade a fortress.
Anyway I see most players playing "Hardcore" because even if an ultra hardcore game like DayZ can attract over 500,000 people than something a tad easier will be very popular.
The only way this will be more fun than DayZ is if that huge list of promised features they have because an actual list of features that the game does have.
It's just like the creator of DayZ said when PC Gamer asked him about The War Z. It will be great if they can pull off the list of promises, which will be incredibly hard to do. DayZ had it a little easier cause it's a mod running on a developed engine and game.
Also, the micro-transactions will either make or break this game.
That said, I'm really looking forward to it. The artstyle reminds me of Left 4 Dead. Realistic, but not entirely so, still kinda "cartoony".

It's coming out this fall so it kinda seems like they already did pull it off.

Holy shit really? That's really soon. Now I really want to pre-order
And, pleasantly, The War Z doesn't seem to be either subscription-based or free-to-play.
Like Guild Wars 2, once you buy the MMORPG there are no subscription fees.
I wouldn't be at all surprised if there were optional microtransactions too, though.
Would be the best solution and makes the game even more interesting for me.
The micro-transactions are confirmed to not be pay to win.
You basically buy not-diarrhea inducing food.
pls pls pls don't be a crappy shoot em up thanks
As long as the survival thing doesn't become "Quick lets shoot that guy before he can eat his beans", I'm all for it.

I hope it does become like that.
Urgh, no, that's what detracted from DayZ.
Looks interesting, can't wait to see some action gameplay.
I was upset about it being an MMO then I saw that we can run our own servers. Where do I sign up?
Uggh, I only see bad things coming out of this. Now that people realize that people really want an open world zombie survival FPS, EVERYONE is going to be cranking them out.
It's going to be CoD4 again.

For the Closed Beta later this Summer? Right here friend.
Developer Hammerpoint Interactive plans to run dedicated public servers, but players can also run their own.
Neat
I wonder if they'll sell the game at a lower price than Arma to compete with DayZ
