• Building a PC, ~1400$ Budget.

So I live in Canada and I want to make a new gaming computer, I don't really have a budget in mind but I think 1400$ is decent. So far that's what I've got, is that good? Under there I have a Seagate 1TB for 60$, I will probably be using the same monitor that I have now or buy one later down the line so I'm not counting it yet and I will be using the mouse/keyboard I already have. Just wondering if that's a decent purchase and if everything is compatible and stuff.
Dafuq, i7 4790K with a z97 mobo but a stock cooler? 850 Watt is a bit overkill for a 760, so i suggest that you invest in a 650 watt or 700 watt psu(Power supply unit). If you are planning on doing a SLI configuration, then i think a 850 watt would be fine. But if you aren't planning on doing SLI then: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139010 OR http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139012 If you aren't planning on overclocking your i7, then you mind as get a i7-4790 and a cheaper mobo. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835181036&cm_re=corsair_water_h90-_-35-181-036-_-Product http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835181036&cm_re=corsair_water_h90-_-35-181-036-_-Product For GPU brands, i would suggest ASUS, MSI, or EVGA, those are probably the top 3 best brands for nVidia cards. Just because the Gigabyte 760 has 3 fans, it doesn't necessary mean that the Gigabyte card will run cooler . Asus and MSI has the best cooling even though it only has 2 fans, i guess its just the way they implemented the heatsinks and pipes
This will do you much better. An i7 for a gaming build is misplaced in this budget imo. You won't see any difference over an i5. The 4gb 760 is a gimmick over the 2gb model. This setup will max out anything with ease at 1080p/60fps, and can push good fames in 1440p as well. You'll also be able to overclock it quite a bit, plus you've got 250gb of SSD storage in addition to 1tb of mechanical. If you really want a powerful graphics card, then you mind as well wait a month or two for the next gen nVidia card.
Just ordered my setup not sure how it compares but it's similar. I haven't built a pc in 3 years but my last one still holds it's own and can play any game out. i7-4790 Rosewill BLACKHAWK Gaming ATX Mid Tower http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811147107 CORSAIR CXM series CX600M 600Whttp://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139048 Lite on dvd burnerhttp://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827106393 TOSHIBA PH3300U-1I72 3TBhttp://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822149396 MSI Z97-Gaming 5http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130770 2 HyperX Fury Black Series 8GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820104444 SAMSUNG 840 EVO MZ-7TE250BW 2.5" 250GB SATA 6Gb/shttp://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820147248 and a R9 270x 2gig
If you really want a powerful graphics card, then you mind as well wait a month or two for the next gen nVidia card.
What kind of price tag am I looking at?
Depends on what you want. I think it should be around the same price or maybe a bit higher than the current gen cards. So i think that if a card this gen is 300, then next gen should be around 350. And again, this is my guess. But it is worth it http://wccftech.com/geforce-gtx-970-980-pricing-leaked-399-499-zotac-gtx-970-pictured/
What kind of price tag am I looking at?
Just about 50 dollars more like what monstermega10 said, but it's worth it. Build the rig that Levelog put together with a GPU and use the IGPU for a bit. I did that and play every Source game like Gmod at high settings.
Just put my build together last night. My Rosewill BLACKHAWK Gaming ATX Mid Tower case turned out great. It came with 5 huge case fans and is very quiet. I also highly recommend a ssd hard drive. I have the samsung evo and it's freaking fast. Installed windows 7 in just a few minutes. So far loving it. Boot time is ridiculous as well. So far so good.
Thanks guys, you're all very helpful. I'll wait for next gen graphic cards then if they're being released in about a month. [editline]13th September 2014[/editline] I will probably do as Original User said but I will use the GTS 450 I have in my current rig, like that I'll still be able to play the games I play now until I wait for the next gen cards. I will post here again soon with the new rig I have in mind with everyone's recommendations in this thread.
Also I don't have much knowledge when it comes to water-cooling, is it difficult to set up? Would I be fine with a simple after-market cooler that isn't water-cooled?
The all in one kits like the h100i are piss easy. You screw in the rad/fans together with the long screws, then you mount the water block on the CPU like a normal heatsink.
Thanks, that is pretty easy. Will I need that for my graphic card too or are the fans in it enough?
The fans are plenty. The normal non-reference coolers are very effective.
How do I know what's a reference and what's non-reference? [editline]13th September 2014[/editline] Nevermind, Reference is if the card had Nvidia or AMD on it while Non-reference is like Asus, MSI, Gigabyte, etc, yes?
You'll be able to see by the heatsink/fan. The reference is usually a blower design, and what will be pictured on AMD/Nvidia's website. Non-reference is custom coolers from the manufacturer, like Gigabyte Windforce or Sapphire Tri-X
Thanks man, you're being extremely helpful.
No problem. If you have any other questions closer to build time, feel free to pm me/make a new thread/make a new one
