Just got a new 5.1 pc speaker set up and here's a big problem.

My pc has 3 colored jacks on the back if you can call em that heh. My older 5.1 speakers used all of them, which pissed me off cause I couldn't use them and also a microphone. So instead I got some new one's which just happened to have only 1 jack connection or whatever its called. all is dandy until I plugged it in one of the outputs and got fucked over.... the soundman tool that comes with the realtek ac97 driver thinks its a 2 speakers setup which messes up stuff even more..... fired up winamp and weirdly every speaker seems to work fine except the fact all of them seem to be at random. ex. the back speakers are now the front one's etc. (also played some gta sa and some of the sounds were really silent while voices were really loud like cj's voice)
I am not sure if the old sound card is the cause, and I am also not sure if the newer sound cards are able to use 5.1 setups with 1 jack input I am one confused mess here hah.
Your old sound card is probably the cause, 5.1 doesn't really have the same effect if you only use 1 jack.
Well I had no way to know the speakers had only 1 jack input. To be honest I hear no difference in the sound quality anyway.
Oh well it will probably fix itself once I get a new sound card.
Coming from my own experience with audio equipment, you can't drive a surround setup with only one 3.5mm jack, since the 3.5mm standard only supports 2 channel audio. For surround setups, I've only ever seen a jack for each individual speaker or an optical connection to an amp that drove them all. Unless you're using some sort of obscure connection that I've never heard of that supports 5 or 7 channels of audio at the same time, I think you're out of luck.

apart from actually researching your purchases, sure
What speaker set up did you buy? If you can link us to it maybe we can figure more out. I have no idea why your 5.1 speakers only have one 3.5 mm jack.
Its called IT MYRIA CP-388-C I could give you a screenie of the connector tomorrow I'm not even sure if its an 3.5 jack.

That would be ideal.
Okay done, caution its made in china heheheh

Okay so here's the problem, you bought a set of cheapo speakers that aren't actually 5.1 :v:
Unless they're pulling some weird binural audio shit, they're just turning stereo into two stereos and a mono
Well you confused the hell outta me.
Left and right in =/= Left, Right, Middle, Back left, Back right out.
I believe some audio cards that support Dolby can use just a 2 channel jack. I think the Dolby technology also sends an encoded signal down the line (along with the actual audio) to the receiver which if it also supports Dolby can use multiple from there.
I researched this and I have a 8 Speaker setup that proves this works. At-least with Dolby.

What you are talking about sounds like a sort of active stereo widening of some sort. The fact of the matter is that you can not get more than stereo sound out of stereo input. Dolby probably just expands the stereo to simulate a surround sound stage, which is not true surround. It can sound damn good depending on the setup and circumstances, but it's sort of "fake".

We're not saying that your speakers are junk. It's just that they aren't going to give you a true stereo sound. The box behind that picture is confusing me; does the jack you're holding go into that box and then out two the 5 speakers that are plugged into it? If so, you might have a simulated surround setup on your hands. In that case, check to see if there's an option for stereo widening in your sound setup options on your PC.
The box is the subwoofer itself, the jack is supposed to go in the pc or mp3 ec.
btw the jack connector is the red and white plugs in the "input" area my screenshot is terrible.
Can't find an option for stereo widening....

It's not 5.1 then.
Are those seriously stereo RCA cables running from your FR/FL RR/RL...

My speakers use them, and they're proper 5.1 :v:
My speakers use them, and they're proper 5.1 :v:
Not what I was implying, nothing wrong with stereo RCA cables being used for that, its just that "5.1" system is a huge tease and a gimmick and I'm not surprised
