Doesn't affect PC gaming really cause A. This is mostly mainstream brands that mean shit for gaming, B. PC Gamers are still buying games at the same rate probably, C. PC gaming has never been dying....
What makes me mad about this is the fact that we get news like this every few months. And it's not only the PC. Sometimes it's consoles.
If you dig into the stats behind the latest IDC report into PC shipments, there’s some startling data and a stark situation. PC shipments (i.e. PC’s delivered to retailers worldwide) declined at their fastest rate ever. In the first three months of 2013, they dropped by 13.9%. That’s way more than the 7.7% predicted, and the fourth consecutive quarter they’ve declined.
That’s pretty dismal news. So what’s going on? And should we PC gamers start sweating?
Does this include PC components or just fully built PC's?
As everyone I know who plays games on their PC actually built the computer from scratch.
I've found it ends up being cheaper than actually buying a pre built one.
I hope Razer comes up with a product to save us
maybe because theres a wider variety of electronics people would buy other then a PC
haha dick stroking news. OCULUS RIFT.
Fine, call me dumb. You have to see the future for yourself.
This article is worthless without data about computer hardware sales.
Why would people be buying PCs? Nothing has come out that needs a hardware update lately, neither software or games wise. Most games still run just fine on Nvidia's 400/500 series cards (three year old hardware). And facebook/skype/microsoft word runs just fine on a three year old prebuilt too.
Do they expect people to purchase a whole new computer every year? Or am I a dumbass and understanding this incorrectly.
Was I reading an article here not a month ago saying that 2012 total PC game sales was $12 billion?
No, we shouldn't be worried.
What's that one law that states that for articles have a question in their title the answer is 99% of the time "No"?
I can definitely relate to that. Because my spending's on video games is minimal.
And it's good that sales are declining. Only shows what kinda bullshit the developers have come up with recently, with a handful of few exceptions. We need better games, and it doesn't help when the community is throwing money at developers who promise too much too early.
Remember how games used to be made? A bunch of guys in a company investing most (all) of their money and time into creating their debut game and then running wild with it? Not anymore, no. Too risky I guess.

First of all: fucking woosh. Everything you just said isn't what the article is about. It's about declining hardware sales from companies like Dell, HP, and how this is fueled by Window 8 not being all that appealing to people who are looking for a new computer.
Second of all, how games used to be made was because no one had any idea about how to actually make a video game. No one knew that Doom would actually be so popular that it would cut into the productivity of America. That, and you don't need to dump your life savings into making a game and "taking risks". "Back in the day" a computer in and of itself was a big investment. Now everyone has one and you can safely make a game from the comfort of your own home.
The only thing dying is proper journalism
Gamers don't walk into Best Buy and purchase a Dell combo box for $800. I could give a shit what the sales numbers for big-box prebuilts are.
Though, it's pretty clear that Windows 8 is depressing the prebuilt market. People either have to relearn a terrible new interface after using the Start menu for the last 20 years, or just buy an iPad.

It's like being on Wall Street
But with Video Games
