I really want to play a bunch of games on my PC (GTA4, Mafia 2, Battlefield Bad Company 2, ect). My computer has some shit qualitys, and I need your help on finding which video card I should get, and the links for them (from newegg, or wherever.) I need Pentium D 3GHz or AMD Athlon 64 X2 3600+ (Dual core) or higher and I have Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.66GHz I have 1022.0MB of RAM and I need 1.5GB. I need NVIDIA GeForce 8600 / ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro or better and I have Intel(R) 82845G Graphics Controller I am very unintelligent when it comes to these specs. For example, I have no idea on how to get more RAM. Budget is preferably inexpensive things.
you're better off building a new PC for ~$800 than trying to upgrade that old PC. you're running some very old hardware that isn't compatible with most of the stuff that comes out these days.
The RAM you will be buying is DDR2, which will be very cheap to upgrade but useless once the next generation of games come out, as the processor won't be able to handle them. Same with the processor if you want to upgrade it, the motherboard holds you back. You're just adding to your costs later. You might as well try to find a decent barebones computer, then if you want to upgrade you can.

As it stands we need to know what motherboard you have, so we can recommend a graphics card. And if you are intending to upgrade that pc to something that would run those games at playable framerates you are better off building a new one. The only thing you would keep at this point would probably be the case, the hard drive, and disk drives. You would need a new motherboard to support a better processor, and would probably need a better power supply to support the extra power draw. [editline]09:29AM[/editline] As for an estimated cost, if you're keeping your old OS, hard drive, disk drive(s), and monitor, I would say ~$600 for the parts for a decent computer that could run current games at medium settings.
