Does this mean you will be able to stream games from your main pc to your laptop and play them?
Does this mean you will be able to stream games from your main pc to your laptop and play them?
yes, but you're going to suffer about 5ms of delay (more if you're wireless, but it's not too bad) due to the nature of how anything like this works. input device -> steam on laptop -> network -> steam on desktop -> game it's actually not too hard to do something like this: just grab and encode the directx surface to something like H.264, and stream dat shit.

Considering how much delay some bigger panels have.
does this mean I can stream a game from my gaming rig to my laptop, even if the laptop does not meet the required specs? because it's just streaming the output to the laptop screen and nothing else.
It also shows that, for in-home streaming to work, Steam users will be required to log into their account on multiple devices at once, which is not currently allowed on Steam.
the article also says that it'll most likely be a rare exception to the rule, i think this too.
So this works on big picture mode right?
So this works on big picture mode right?
Yeah, this is an essential part of the lower end steam machines.
So I have been wanting a way to use my powerful desktop to stream to our tv, but with it being like this that wont be possible. The only way to play games on a tv would be with the steambox because the only other things you can stream to are laptops or desktops. I am guessing, since I don't think valve are going to make steam for stuff like smart tvs that you can log in on and then link the two together. I also don't want to move my pc downstairs everytime I feel like playing a game on the tv. Which makes me not do it at all.

If Steam bought OnLive and integrated something like that into Steam, that would be awesome!
