• Wireless keeps dumping my laptops

It's a constant and really fucking annoying problem that I can't get rid of. I will be connected and doing shit online (both run XP) when I get the wireless bubble popping up telling me that I'm connected...and that I have no signal strength (even though I have five bars) and then it pops up again stating that I'm connected but now my network is unsecured and finally it pops up stating it can't connect (and completely disconnects me from the network) and forces me to manually reconnect to my wireless. This does not appear to be affecting either of my roommates They use the wireless a lot more than me and have never complained about the wireless dropping out. I first switched from my WRT54G's internal wireless to an external B/G/N TrendNET access point and switched channels and that seemed to stop it for a while but then it started happening again and still, no complaints from the roommates so it's only affecting me. :/ Edit: Fuck. As I was about to browse away from this thread: "Connected to blahblah, no signal" "Connected to blahblah (unsecured), excellent signal" "Could not connect to preferred wireless location"
BuMP. Fuck this. I have been fighting the wireless for the last ten minutes and each time my connection lasted about a minute so now I'm plugged directly into my switch.
If you have a load of other wireless networks in your area, consider changing the channel on which your network is broadcasting. If thats not helping, the wireless on the router might be faulty.
I used a Wi-spy stick to comb out the least used channel in my area and I'm set on that right now.
Check for IP conflicts. Just change your local IP if this is the problem.
I'm having a similar problem on 7, although it's probably my routers fault since my family's computers also disconnect randomly. How do you change the broadcast channel? I can get to my routers settings page (Netgear WGR614v8) [editline]27th May 2011[/editline] Ok, found how to change the channel, hasn't disconnected yet.
