PE4 is engineering sample test now. It can detect standard PCIe add-in card in NOTEBOOOK, but we cannot guarantee PCIe add-in card compatibility with your NOTEBOOK. The functions may not work properly.[/QUOTE]
External graphics cards arn't new.
They're severely limited by the USB speed.
Looks safe.
It'd be impractical, but it probably could work.
Never going to work properly.
Meaning, you might aswell just buy the laptop with the GPU built in, save you so much hassle.
Well what if you want a second one so your main gpu doesn't have to do the rendering for both.
Just because you don't need it doesn't mean its pointless.
How do you power it?
Oh, I don't want one.
I just found it, and thought it looked fake.
How would you power one that needs a 12v rail?

Mains adapter maybe?
True. At least when it gets hot you can have it about like a fan :downs:
This looks pricey.
It's real and yeah it works but with limited bandwidth.
You can buy PCI-e ribbon cables so if your laptop has a PCI-e slot you could install a large external graphics card.
External PCI-e is also in development.

The package contains one, if you read it.
This shits been around forever and it's retarded expensive.

TURNING THE KNOB OVERCLOCKS IT :downs:
Express Card slot has 2.5Gbp/s PCI-E On their spec. (Equivelent to just over PCI-E 1x Speed)
For referrence, USB is at best case 480Mb/s

it's also ~$300. the one in the OP is ~$30
I bet you that slot is 16X physicals, 1x electrical. If so it must be noted that not all graphics cards play well with 1x.

what is your point

It could function faster than onboard GMA 945 though.

Not if the card won't even function on PCI-E 1x, Which I believe most don't (8x being minimum?)

The XG Station was out way before this.

Wow. This is a great idea! They are actually selling the PCI-E X1 to Expresscard adapter, anyone know of a reasonable video card for that slot?
Would be cool to fabricate an enclosure or dock to fit under the laptop!
To Benj:
I would try get some data on which cards work on PCI-E 1x - Maybe emailing Nvidia and ATI will help, Then just pick the cheapest and most powerful of them?
This could work when USB 3.0 comes out.

All graphics cards work with any type of PCIe slot, the only difference is bandwidth. That's it.
I am sure I read somewhere that some cards won't take 1x, I know all cards can go down to 8x or even 4x.

I foudn a Success story, But I am 90% sure I read an article about some cards just refusing to boot.
If that's the case then, I'd try get a card that doesn't require external PCI-E Power, That way you don't need to go rigging up a 12V power supply.
It would be great if they used the newer ExpressCard interface instead of the shitty old PCMCIA bus.
It is express card slot :) - Title is wrong.
