If he gets extradited I lose hope in humanity.
The USA thinks they control the world, if his team made an active effort to remove infringing files then I don't even see why he should be held responsible.

I thought they never really removed the files just got rid of the link to them, least that's what I remember reading.
I don't know if I'm late or not, but it looks like all this megaupload business has scared filesonic

If they didn't make an active effort to remove infringing links, then thats a problem.
I always thought he was the owner of some site called kim.com :downs:

They got shut down because they didn't bother at all. Because each download = $. And a movie brings more downloads than a mod for some game or your cute cat picture collection.

But this isn't the same. Megaupload is a big host of pirated content and they have made no real efforts to remove said content in any way.
Unlike Piratebay the content is actually on their site.

They actually have been removing pirated links, you just have to report the links. It should be the uploaders that take responsibility.

Links =/= files. You are supposed to remove files and you're supposed to do it often, not just when you get a DMCA.
It's your service, you are responsible for it. If you don't take good care of removing illegal content, expect your shit to get shut down.
Yeah I'd care if he wasn't a scumbag.
Yeah I'd care if he wasn't a scumbag.
You should care because the US government is being fucking ridiculous and he's the one getting in trouble for the piracy that happened at Megaupload.

How is US government being ridiculous by trying to arrest a criminal? The only ridiculous part about US is that it won't arrest their own politicians.
I just live here okay.

You do realize that this was a concerted effort and that other people were arrested who were part of Megaupload.
THIS WAS A WORLD WIDE POLICING EFFORT.

In all honesty I was expecting him to be a big, built black guy, not Chunk from the goonies.
500 million dollars?
What the fucking christ.
I was expecting him to be Chinese or something.
In 2001, Schmitz purchased $375,000 worth of shares of the nearly bankrupt company LetsBuyIt.com and subsequently announced his intention to invest €50 million in the company. Unknown to others, Schmitz did not have the funds available to invest, although the announcement caused the share value of LetsBuyIt.com to jump by nearly 300%. Schmitz quickly sold the shares and profited $1.5 million as a result.

To be honest, that's pretty clever. (source)
I guess you could say the DotCom Bubble is bursting again.

That's what he should be going to jail for.
The problem is they took down all of megaupload and its siblings.

Not a good idea if he was to be executed. When you hang someone that heavy, the body will eventually rip away from the neck due to the head unable to support the rest of the body, pretty much separating the head and the body, causing a bigger mess that needs to be cleaned up... as there will be blood everywhere.

You do realise that Hanging as an execution method isn't supposed to be a long drawn out thing, right? You're not (or weren't) meant to die from suffocation form hanging, it was meant to snap your neck.

Yeah, snapping the neck, or separating the neck from the torso entirely, skin and all?
I wouldn't say it's for both but for the former. And I'd think that hanging a heavy guy like Kim would cause the latter.
