i'm using microsoft basic display adapter drivers to use my computer, and as a result my computer cannot run video games. whenever i try to install the (amd) drivers to resolve this issue my computer does not boot and displays only a green screen. my processor does not have any integrated graphics. could these be a hardware issue?? how can i resolve this. thanks.
What AMD graphics card/chip do you have in your system? Which driver release are you using?
I've had a couple of failed graphics cards die like this. Probably time to RMA it if that's an option.
try using lower versions of that if any of those work
thank you for the suggestion. i have installed several drivers which have worked in the past, and the computer still fails to boot after displaying the windows logo.
welp only thing i can think of is a clean install of the OS
I shall try this promptly, thank you.
I uhh hope you used DDU before doing a reinstall. Could just be part of an old install conflicting with the newer drivers.
Displaying a green screen seems like a graphics memory issue. How old is the card? Test a different video card if possible.
I have reset windows completely and the computer does still not boot while radeon drivers are installed
I had a very similar issue with my r9 390 a few weeks ago. The graphics drivers crashed during a game and on reboot after the Windows logo I got a black screen (I could see my cursor though). Microsoft's basic video driver would work, but immediately when installing the drivers (midway through the install) it would blackscreen. You might want to take a peek into your event log, in my cause the AMD drivers were crashing constantly (Display driver amdkmdap stopped responding and has successfully recovered.) You can try reseating the card and swapping to a different PCIe slot. If you have a spare graphics card try to see if that works, in my case it did, so I RMA'd the card (still waiting on their response though, XFX is slow as balls) [editline]23rd July 2017[/editline] Actually, I just checked now and XFX said the card is faulty. I would suggest a RMA.
I have reset windows completely and the computer does still not boot while radeon drivers are installed
Like I said, displaying a green screen seems like a graphics memory issue. I'd test a different video card or try the card in a different system, more than likely the video card is borked.

Me and a few others had exactly these issues, just resolved by rolling back the update for now, still seems stability related, but they are somehow tripping something on boot.
