If it can still be turned off with a single registry edit that anything can do and it effects it live, no reboot needed to disable it.

iirc you can just disable it in the settings without having to touch the registry. some AV software will automatically disable windows defender as well

If you disable it in the settings it'll re-enable itself again after a bit.
Never needed anything other than windows defender tbh. Never had an issue.

No I mean it that a virus can disable it before it can do anything by changing a single registry key.
