did anyone really expect different from the people that can only make a pretty game, and never a fun one?

But I do agree, Crytek is better at developing good engines, but they have real problems making "good" games.
It's difficult not to get numbed to the gore on display.
You'd think some game would take advantage of this as a thematic element. Obviously most people would be quick to point out Hotline Miami or The Line but the violence was pretty horrifying all the way through, the "numbness" was only in the frame of the character. But imagine playing as an extremely violent Roman general who becomes more and more dehumanized throughout the game, much quicker to take the "stab first, ask questions never" route by the end as the characters around them are horrified. All the while the horrifying actions are just standard violence you see in every game. No torture scenes or moral quandary, just you chopping guys' arms off when stabbing them in the heart would have been equally sufficient.

Nice to see an article that is rather negative to a overhyped new launch title for the next generation consoles. Also I didn't expect much from this game anyway.
It's a shame tbh, I love the setting in the game. Rome is some seriously cool shit when you look backwards at history and how advanced they were for their time. I absolutely love games that has Rome and other factions in them (Rome total war, that one spartan game that CA made)
