Hello, ive recently gotten a 9800GT (1GB DDr3 PNY) for my computer, i was getting pretty good performance, until latley...
Ive played fallout 3 before i started having problems, it was doing pretty well on 1024x768 and ultra settings, after that, i got a bit cocky, and decided to 1600x900, it struggled a bit, but i am used to a 6150SE so it wasnt anything for me to worry about. But now, for some reason, it struggled a LOT in 1600x900, so i thought i should turn it down to 800x600 and medium settings to see how it would work then, but to my suprise, it was getting the same fps (like 20-35) as it was before on 1600x900! Then i turned it back to ultra and 1600x900, and it played with like 5-10 fps, i was getting like 30-45 on 1600x900 before i noticed the problems! so i was thinking something bad might have happened to the card, internally, im not very good with computers, so im not sure whats going on. I went to gmod to test, and it was acting weird aswell, i was getting less then 100 fps on empty construct, when i got the card home that night, i got around 150 in empty construct.
Maybe this matters, which it probably does, but anyways: I had best buy install the card ( i know, i know, i just didnt want to fuck anything up)and they were installing it, blah blah blah, But when i got there they said my Hard Drive was "Failing" and that they cud repair it for another 70 bucks! Well at this point i know that something odd is going on, cause i have the slot and room to have this card in my pc, but why would my hard drive "Fail" because of this? Well i took it home and ignored there little warnings, do you think this is why my card is suddenly not doing so well? If so please tell me.
Thank you for your time, and if you know anything i can do, please help me.
I'm not as computer literate as most people around this section, but if your hard drive was indeed "failing", I'm pretty sure you would notice a lot of slowness just browsing around Windows. That best buy thing seemed like a total gimmick.
My advice is to exit out of any background applications. And perhaps do a virus check.

Okay, i thnk i have been noticing a slowness in my desktop. And as i recall, i did have one virus, but it never showed up again, if it was still there, wud it be doing this? Sorry if im bugging you.
The new drivers have given me problems, so I would recommend downloading and running driver sweeper, then installing the latest drivers.
i did try that once, but it failed to install for an unknown reason...
