Why do they keep making these.
Why do they keep making these.
Because there is a market full of people who enjoy them
Why do they keep making these.
To be fair, this is a remake of the FFXIV that kind of bombed hard. So its not so much a new one. I like the FF series, but it sort of goes to meh past IX in my opinion. I signed up for beta back in January. At least now I know there's a definite date.
Why do they keep making these.
like already mentioned, this is a fix of an already existing product. (the release was a disappointment to the FFXI mmo fans, so they dropped a lot of the old crew and started rebuilding a ton of stuff and released a kickass video that's literally just an allegory of shit going wrong and they go back to the beginning of FFXIV to try again) As for your answer as a whole, FF games are all unique universes and storylines, save for a few follow-ups (XII and XIV) and secondary episodes (X and X-II) such. They all fit similar premises and gameplay, but this isn't like call of duty is (not) evolving from version to version. I think it's more of a tradition to keep to the namesake but re-write history in an overall universe for each one. The only time the FF name was completely something else was the movie "The Spirits Within", which shows they really just wanted to stick to the name when they produce things. A little backstory though, the first final fantasy was named that because the game was a last bid to make some money from the little company that developed it. It was a success and they made a new one, kept the name because it was popular, and that branched off the success, and so began the namesake legacy. tl;dr they actually do something different with a general theme every time and are attached to the name
I still think it's weird they're adding in male Miqo'te and female Roegadyn. I mean, I guess it makes sense to have both genders, but it just odd to me. Would much rather have seen Vieras and Bangaas, but I guess they're only exclusive to the Ivalice world?
I hope this revision works out well for them. I was very disappointed after pre-ordering and finding out that many of the things that I loved from XI were not present in XIV. Most notably a proper auction house to sell my fish at, a proper looking-for-group system, and a true support class like XI's red mage. Of course like daijitsu said, I shouldn't have expected XIV to be a carbon copy of XI but I at least expected it to be similar since they both share the MMO aspect which no other game in the series has.
Will it be F2P when it's finally released? I always wanted to try out these JRPG-style MMORPGs. Must be the influence of watching SAO/.hack series.

I know people would kill to play either of them in an mmo setting, I'd love to see Vieras ala tactics advance/a2 style, they weren't quite as fanservicey [editline]15th February 2013[/editline]
Will it be F2P when it's finally released? So, no, probably back to $15/month + $2 per additional character slot or however they did that.

I for one will hoping I get into the beta starting and will definitely resub to this when it launches.
it better be good/different most mmos flop after a few months and end up going f2p
a number of the people I know who liked FFXI back in the day still play it. I'm going to take a wild guess and say if SE went out of their way to completely re-do XIV specifically to make it right for the fans, it'll last a good while too.
