Hello Facepunch,
I just received the parts for my new build, and will probably be assembling this weekend. Anything I need to know/tips/advice about physically putting it together? This is my first time so i'm assuming i'm going to need all the help I can get.
Cheers

Why didn't you consult us before you built this?

Just don't worry about the gloves.
Seems quite nice. Don't be afraid to apply a little bit of force, and if it doesn't go in after that it probably isn't supposed to.
What power supply?
And touch the case before you start working on the computer.

The ram and the lever on the cpu socket require a bit of force, its normal.
Yeah, but make sure the CPU is properly seated before you put the socket down.

Yes, very important part.

Good thing there are arrows.
I see you have an aftermarket heatsink.
Make sure to apply a small amount of thermal grease to the CPU before mounting the heatsink.

I love how so many people have started buying these PCI slot fans. All they do is increase noise - there's little to no benefit unless your graphics card is burning.

Its the blue. :D
You bought the fans for the blue light?

Got a comp ricer here.
You bought the fans for the blue light?
Yes.
You got the tri-channel ram or whatever that stuff is, right?
And this is pretty much the same exact setup I'm hoping to build down the to GPU, minus the fans (and the case)

What case are you getting? I would highly recommend this one..ultralight and so far pretty durable as well.

Yeaaaah but why not be cooler inside? The PCI slot fans aren't unbearably loud..
Is there good airflow? I haven't looked too far into cases since I want to do that after I select everything.. (still undecided on a few parts) Also about how much did everything cost?

My total was around $1.2k I believe..post your build. I'm not sure about airflow yet, though it does come with built in 80mm fans..which is fantastic.
Well this is a draft of what I'm planning to do, so it doesn't include everything and isn't all finalized.. but here it is.
Windows 7 Professional
Intel i-7 920
OCZ Gold 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Triple Channel Kit
2x Western Digital Caviar SE WD3200AAJS 320GB 7200 RPM 8MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive
LG 22x Dual Format CD/DVD Burner
EVGA 896-P3-1255-AR GeForce GTX 260 Core 216 896MB 448-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16
Corsair CMPSU-750TX Power Supply (Considering larger)
Asus P6T Intel X58 (CrossFire and SLI)
And the case I was toying with was the Nzxt Guardian 921, but like I said.. didn't look too far into it quite yet.
Also considering this. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129042
My friend has it and I'm in love with it..
When are you thinking of buying this new computer?
Possibly late August to mid-October, though I'm gonna start buying parts that aren't going to change much (like PSU, Drives, RAM) in a week or so.
Except they will change.
Maybe RAM will.. but it's not like theres going to be a groundbreaking power supply released in the next few months that isn't going to cost a bunch. Maybe there will be lower prices, but I'm doing a gradual upgrade up until I buy the case. I'm going to swap the new parts (only the PSU and GPU) into my current computer and use them while I keep buying the parts. Then put all of it into the new case when I get it (and the motherboard, core, etc)..
My reason for this is that I don't quite have all the money together to buy it all at once.. so I'll buy it gradually and enjoy them as I get them.
As I have it now, I have PCI-Express 1.0 mobo, a low-end PSU that's near it's limit, a Radeon X1300 (I know.. that's terrible haha), 2GB of ram, and a Athlon 64 X2 4600+
x1300 works wonders.

How will a new power supply help you enjoy your computer?
So I can put in a better GPU. Right now if I tried putting a GTX 260 in my computer, it wouldn't start.. not to mention that this PSU doesn't have the extra cables required to power the damn thing. So I'll get a new one, swap it temporarily and get the GTX 260 and run it in compatibility mode.
So you're going to get a new GPU now for your shitty old computer and use the new GPU in a new computer?
Makes no sense.
I'm going to buy the PSU and GPU, put them in the old computer. When I get the new computer parts, then I'll put the new PSU and GPU in the new one and put the old parts back in the old one.
Because it's going to be a month or so between having the first few parts and having everything to make this bitch run.
That's a waste, because in a month, new shit will be out OR prices will go down.
Yeah, so? No matter when I buy them, in a month new shit will be out or prices will go down.
I mean, it'd be nice to get everything at once.. but I guess I'll put the graphics at the end of that list so if I can hit up on a GTX 280 for the same price then it's a win win.
That's a waste, because in a month, new shit will be out OR prices will go down.
What about the $25 savings that won't be there next week?
Yes, very important part.
That isn't going to do jack shit unless the case itself is actually grounded.
