XIII was fairly fun. Haven't played XIII-2 though. No idea about this either but I'll download it and try the demo at least.

XIII-2 was definitely worse than XIII. My main gripe with it is how enemies spawned right in your face instead of actually being part of the level. Got annoying after a while.
I heard that the ending of Lighting Returns was so bad that it ruined all of final fantasy.

Whether or not the ending was shit, I heard the gameplay was pretty good, at least in comparison to the other XIII games.

Not the director... Japan. Japan revere Lightning as another Cloud Strife who was also extremely popular which is why they keep doing more Lightning.
