I really don't see Mojang coming out with anything impressive, especially with Notch at the helm. He's just not that motivated.
Nothing they do will perform as well as Minecraft did
Nothing they do will perform as well as Minecraft did
Or, at least, all of alpha - early/mid beta. Everything beyond that point was meh to me.
Nothing they do will perform as well as Minecraft did
Perhaps not but a if they want success they should do what Noms suggested, create several prototypes and see what game will have the most potential.

0x10c was honestly the only thing i wanted to see out of Mojang. "Dropped 0x10c" Well Shit.
0x10c didn't look all that interesting tbh.
0x10c didn't look all that interesting tbh.
The issue was he didn't even plan anything. Like how foolish do you have to be to piece a game together as you go along and expect it to work. The main thing with any game, book, movie whatever piece of media you're working on is that you plan it so you have an idea of where you need to go with it.
Nothing they do will perform as well as Minecraft did
You could say the same for 99% of games that are released right now. It doesn't mean they should stop trying.
You could say the same for 99% of games that are released right now. It doesn't mean they should stop trying.
Notch's problem is that he doesn't try at all. Never did. Even now MineCraft feels incomplete.
Notch's problem is that he doesn't try at all. Never did. Even now MineCraft feels incomplete.
[del]His problem is that his experience comes from Ludum Dare. Not actually working on full games.[/del] I'm wrong.
Notch's problem is that he doesn't try at all. Never did. Even now MineCraft feels incomplete.
Just read his blog. He's anxious about people like you expecting him to make another Minecraft.
Just read his blog. He's anxious about people like you expecting him to make another Minecraft.
He didn't even complete the first Minecraft, how am I going to expect another?
Notch's problem is that he doesn't try at all. Never did. Even now MineCraft feels incomplete.
I don't get what you guys have done that make you think you have achieved more than him. Why do you have higher expectations for him than you do for yourself?
I don't get what you guys have done that make you think you have achieved more than him. Why do you have higher expectations for him than you do for yourself?
It's not about Notch really, it's about his fans who portray him as a god of game development or something, whenever it's brought up, while Notch not only just an ordinary guy, who accidentally found Klondike, but he's also not a very good game designer (just read his main statement in this article).
Notch hates being famous. He knows it was all luck and he's admitted that before. He's at this point where, not only does he not have to worry about making money, but he has to worry about pressure from thousands of people whenever he works on a new game. He's made such a high jump compared to most other developers, he's still an indie developer who doesn't have a whole lot of experience with making games, yet he has the world looking at him whenever he makes something. It's a lot of stress and it makes it hard to want to complete anything.
It's the price of being known for anything. You're going to be judged by that. Luckily he's on the internet, can make an alias, release games under that name and never have that problem again. The game won't ever get the attention that it would have otherwise, but that's what he wants.. right?
I don't get what you guys have done that make you think you have achieved more than him. Why do you have higher expectations for him than you do for yourself?
No one really thinks they've achieved more than him, it's just that Notch could have made better decisions or just stuck with Minecraft. But then there is the whole issue with his dad committing suicide and such and I completely excuse Notch for what happened to Minecraft around that time as family comes before your job, your hobby, and whatever some petty children on the internet will have to say about you.

I didn't think you'd make anything better than Gmod until Rust came along :v: But if Rust's sales have anything to say about it, it looks like it'll be as popular as Gmod is/was.
It would help him if news sites didn't report on every little thing he says. Report on him when he does something interesting. Until then there's plenty of indie developers that could do with the attention.
I don't get what you guys have done that make you think you have achieved more than him. Why do you have higher expectations for him than you do for yourself?
Yeah, well how many outrageously successful indie sandbox construction games have you made? One, maybe two, tops.
I kind of like this idea. I think everyone at mojang has some neat ideas but not enough to be a full game. I think maybe they should do something like Bethesda with a week or something to make some game concepts and see what people like and then they can move to them. I don't think Mojang has much in them to produce a successful game on their own. Their whole identity is Minecraft, and moving from your one hit wonder is dangerous. I was going to say they could in the future release major paid content updates, but people see the game as still being unfinished and the modding community can do so much more.
If I had a big bag of money and a plan to make games, I would love to spend time prototyping and fucking about with no "WE GOTTA PUSH FOR THE PROFIT" above my head. Lucky him.
0x10c had a really boring and overly nerdy premise tbh
His problem is that his experience comes from Ludum Dare. Not actually working on full games.
I'm really really sorry, I don't think you know what you're saying though.
Professionally he had worked as a game developer for King.com for over four years, until 2009.[10] Afterwards he worked as a programmer for Jalbum.[11] He is also one of the founders of Wurm Online,

I'm really really sorry, I don't think you know what you're saying though.
I guess I didn't, my bad v:v:v
You could say the same for 99% of games that are released right now. It doesn't mean they should stop trying.
Well they would have to start trying before they could stop.
Well they would have to start trying before they could stop.
Like http://drop.notch.net/ I guess?
Like http://drop.notch.net/ I guess?
No like hire a big team of professionals to work specifically on their only successful and massively played game to get more and more improvements out faster, better features, optimization, etc... Its like 3 people on minecraft or something.
