I'm generally like still interested in Older Windows versions that have past before us, thought it maybe good to have a discussion thread on some of them
Okay so old, what do I mean, I'm talking POST-NT era, so before microsoft decided to ditch DOS for something better, so
Windows 1
Windows 2
Windows 3 (and 3.1)
Windows 95
Windows 98 (and SE)
Windows ME
significantly a lot of us would remember more from 3.1, each version of windows introduced some revolutionary features, mainly windows 95 with the start menu and Windows ME with its vast ability to bring malware back into computer systems with system restore
This thread is to serve as a discussion to these old versions that we grew up with, I grew up with 95 and 98 personally, 98 was to me a great operating system for its time
also if you find any computers that still run these old versions you can share them here
There's still ways to enjoy the OS's we grew up with, with virtual machines like VMware or microsoft's own, virtual PC
unfortunately, many of these floppy disk's/CD's don't exist, sometimes work places in the storage units have old disc's there, ask a friend if they may have some left over
Mentioning any illegal ways to get these are forbidden, they may be old and forgotten but im sure it still fits in with the whole warez rule here

even though it goes way past into the NT territory, its still a cool video to show the compatibility to window versions
so yeah have fun
I still have my Win98 CD. Does that make me any cooler? No?

Free win98 key everybody!
is that the second edition or vanilla?
Would you consider Windows 2000 post-NT?
Would you consider Windows 2000 post-NT?
2000 ran on NT, I know what you're saying tho but I'm trying to focus this thread on like DOS and 9x
God, I switched to NT4 and 2000 Pro in about '01 . Stopped getting that blue screen when I ejected a CD-ROM.
is that the second edition or vanilla?
It's the second edition.
I have a copy of windows 95 on 13 floppy disks
i'm missing one though so looks like I'll never get to use them =(
Windows 98 SE was my favorite OS. the desktop themes you could get, were great and i remember playing DOS games on it. and getting the blue screen a lot. also having dial-up to just log in to the computer.
What I remember about the 9x series as a young child was the rather frequent crashing, whether this was down to shitty underpowered hardware I don't know. If I had to pick the least crashy one it would have to be Windows 98 running on my primary schools PC's.

The themes on 98SE actually oriented from Windows95 Plus
My favourite thing about Windows 98 was just the environment and how web integrated microsoft tried to get it, I think it was one of the best os's to really love the internet and IE4/IE5 at the time was amazing
The first computer of my own was this shitty eMachines that I got for free, it had 384MB of RAM, a Celeron running at 533MHz and an 8GB hard drive. No, that wasn't in the late 90s, it was in 2007.
It came with Windows 98, though I installed 2000. It ran really well and still worked with all the XP drivers that were available, though took up less space. It was rock solid, too. I never had a problem with it.
98SE was actually relatively stable when I was running it on my old Pentium II.
For some reason though it ain't getting along with VirtualBox.
I remember using Windows ME, and shit wasn't so bad.
9SE was awesome apart from no SMP support but that was more because of MS-DOS than anything.
I remember using Windows ME, and shit wasn't so bad.
to me it seemed useless, you could get windows 2000 which ran on a better kernel or stick with the old 9x
ME had its issues, I remember it being called Mistake Edition :v:
