So a bad thing happened to my old computer and I want to use it for an excuse to upgrade (from a poopy q8300 & gts250)
I'm not sure about the gpu - AMD might be a better choice, and I'm not sure if I really need a K cpu with its correspondingly expensive motherboard, how long will this go for without needing an overclock/upgrade? If I did get the 3570k, how much of an overclock would be possible with the cooler I selected (or another in that price range, I want a quiet pc)?
I live in the uk, and this will be used to play videogames and make crappy digital paintings & shitty graphic designs with Adobe Photoshop[SUP]TM and Illustrator[SUP]TM[/SUP][/SUP] (hence the 8gb of ram)
This is at the very top end of a stretched budget, ideally it would be a bit less but[SUB]uh[/SUB]

This is pretty much my pc, runs well. Plays pretty much every game at 1920x1080 and the 7850 overclocks like mad. Obviously look around a bit for RAM, Cases and other GPU manufacturers to get the best price. And if you can it would be a good idea to stretch and get a 7870 XT like posted above.

Only get the AMD cpu if you really do allot of photoshop work.
Else the 3570k is way better.
And overclocking pays off in the end. You can do a massive overclock with that cooler.
The GPU is not so great though.
Also, intel will release its new CPU line within a month. And its gonna have the same price as its current cpu's. So you might want to wait a bit and get the i5-4670k.
(No word on socket 1150 mobo pricing though)

psst, you forgot a motherboard! I don't think I use photoshop enough to justify going amd for it, it seems that the 3570k will be more powerful in most other things.
I saw that graphics card but it is a bit out of my price range, although it is the best card for under £200 so I'll try and find a better deal

Thanks, I don't really know much about overclocking past it making your cpu faster & hotter
from what i've seen the haswells aren't really that much better aside from the iGPUs, and i'm not going to be using that hopefully!

I wouldn't call the 3570k way better, they're pretty evenly matched. Some games run better on the 8350 and some run better on the 3570k.

It's kinda even. But intell still turns out better most of the time. Some games just run like crap on AMD whatever you do (Eve online, Planetside 2 etc) While Intel usually is pretty stable.
Not to mention the massive TDP of the AMD that justifies getting the intel within a year.

Especially when you compare them to a game like Skyrim where it favors Intel the most.
