I feel that this thread is appriopriate to be put in the PC Building section, because it does have some relevence to PC building.
I've always had questions, in which would be awesome if you, Facepunch could answer them!
1. What is the difference between AMD and Intel Processors?
* What are the pros and Cons between them?
* Which one is best all in General?
* Which one is best for a budget, but still good.
* What's the best Intel and AMD Processor out so far?
2. Using SLI Videocards, If I'm correct SLI Means you can hook up 2 video cards in one MOBO, Do you need to do anything to Sync the video cards to correspond with each other so they work, Or is it Just Plug in and play?
3. How can I go about Overclocking or RAID 0, How do I go about doing it? And What types of Hardware could I do it to? Video Card, Processor, etc..
I know I have a few other questions, but these are it for now, Thank you Facepunch for answering the questions If you do.
How do I know what the right amount is to overclock something? so I don't over shoot or under shoot it.
1. What is the difference between AMD and Intel Processors? nothing
* What are the pros and Cons between them? AMD is cheap, Dont score as well. Intel runs well, isn't as cheap.
* Which one is best all in General? they're both great, it depends on your needs
* Which one is best for a budget, but still good? AMD
* What's the best Intel and AMD Processor out so far? Intel has the i7, AMD has the phenom x4 (i think)
2. Using SLI Videocards, If I'm correct SLI Means you can hook up 2 video cards in one MOBO, Do you need to do anything to Sync the video cards to correspond with each other so they work, Or is it Just Plug in and play?
I think you may have to set something up with games, I know in CoD4 you need to let the game know you're using SLI (or crossfire). Honestly I would skip over using two cards and just buy 1 top of the line card.

You can overclock your CPU GPU and RAM. You can use a program like RIVATUNER for your GPU, the other two I think you need to go into bios and do something in there (am not an OC'er). It is dangerous to your computer as it can overheat and ruin the part(s).
I'm not sure about how to get a RAID set up, I think it's pointless. But thats just me.

So, you can Overclock it with Software? Okay. Another question I'd like to know. I'm posting it on the First post.
You have to overclock your gpu with software, but I strongly recommended overclocking your CPU in BIOS.

You'll know when your computer shuts down. From what I've observed you should only do a little at a time, as to get an idea to what your cpu cooler can handle.

Back when I used to overclock ( I don't anymore ). I used to increase the rates of my CPU by 5-10Mhz at a time, and then benchmark it ( I used Burnintest pro ) for about 2 hours. If it ran stable, I would up the clocks a bit more. I did this until I achieved what I figured was a safe overclock rate. But I always tryed to keep my Temps under 65c.
( Another good rule if you're running stock coolers, is to never exceed a 20% overclock, regardless of if your hardware can take it or not ).
I think I'd be best to leave it alone. Is there a huge difference in performance of overclocked hardware opposed to non overclocked?

Wrong-ish.Look into things more.If im wrong i should do it.

1. What is the difference between AMD and Intel Processors?The Ghz are different.Compare AMD 965 BE @ 3.4Ghz to Intels i7 Extreme 975 @3.33 Ghz.Thats a 750 $ difference just about.For 1Ghz?That's insane.
* What are the pros and Cons between them?AMD is cheap, Dont score as well. Intel runs well, isn't as cheap.
* Which one is best all in General?Intel.
* Which one is best for a budget, but still good.AMD is more budget Friendly.
* What's the best Intel and AMD Processor out so far?Intels i7's and i5.AMD 955 or 965 Phenom X4
2. Using SLI Videocards, If I'm correct SLI Means you can hook up 2 video cards in one MOBO, Do you need to do anything to Sync the video cards to correspond with each other so they work, Or is it Just Plug in and play? You need to have a SLI or Crossfire Bridge.Should come with the cards.
1. What is the difference between AMD and Intel Processors?
There are many differences between the two. The architecture is completely different which means that AMD processors are manufactured differently to Intel's.
* What are the pros and Cons between them?
Intel generally have slightly more reliable chips but they do tend to cost more than their AMD counterparts.
* Which one is best all in General?
Both have different uses for different applications.
* Which one is best for a budget, but still good.
AMD Usually have an upper hand on price/performance in the low-mid end, but at the moment, Intel's i5 is the best price/performance processor on the high-end market.
* What's the best Intel and AMD Processor out so far?
Intel's top chip is the Core i7-975 Extreme Edition.
AMD's top chip is the Phenom x4 965 Black Edition.
2. Using SLI Videocards, If I'm correct SLI Means you can hook up 2 video cards in one MOBO, Do you need to do anything to Sync the video cards to correspond with each other so they work, Or is it Just Plug in and play?
Most GPU's nowadays come with the SLI/Crossfire bridge required to connect the two cards. It's just a matter of plugging both cards into your motherboard and connecting them using the SLI/Crossfire bridge.
3. How can I go about Overclocking or RAID 0, How do I go about doing it? And What types of Hardware could I do it to? Video Card, Processor, etc..
Overclocking is available to your Video Card, Processor and RAM. Overclocking the Processor and the RAM is best done in the BIOS settings, but the Video Card is usually overclocked through software that comes with the card, such as CCC on ATI cards.
RAID requires a RAID controller, but most motherboards these days come with one built into the motherboard. You'll then need to configure the RAID in the BIOS settings and install the drivers to windows.
How do I know what the right amount is to overclock something? so I don't over shoot or under shoot it.
Do benchmarks and stress tests after each increase and increase the speed of the processor by small amounts, maybe 100-200MHz at a time until you reach something that remains relatively stable.
Thanks to everyone answering my questions, but here's more!!
1. with SLI, right now I have a Geforce 9800 GT, say I want to get the 5870, Could I use them both with SLI?
And With memory, right now I have this one set of memory
OCZ 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)
The exact ones I have have been deactivated, will I be able to get a different kind of memory sticks and use them? And would my computer read 8 gigs of memory? or does my OS affect it, right now I have 32-bit Windows Vista, I want Windows 7. in order to have 8 gigs of memory do I need 64-bit, or does it not matter?
No,
nVidia is SLi and ATi si CrossfireX
You can not use a 9800GT with a ATi card and vice versa has to be the same card for nVidia but with ATi any CrossfireX compatable card from ATi.
[editline]12:53PM[/editline]
Also getting 64-Bit does matter after 4Gigs of ram
