• Headset microphone not working. Seems to be a problem with the audio jacks.

This afternoon my friend after much recommendation (nagging) from me got his own headset and decided to call me on Skype. Sadly my microphone and subsequently the headset didn't work. My first thought was that my recent re-installation of windows 7 had ruined some setting somewhere to I went into the sound control panel to find that even with my headset unplugged a pair of headphones and 2 microphones were still connected. Looking at each devices properties I could see that it thought there was a microphone plugged into the now vacant jacks I normally use for my headset. plugging the thing back in didn't change anything and the sound levels remained dead. I tried searching for people having troubles with 'ghost devices' plugged into audio jacks but nothing relevant came up. I then went on a search for drivers but I only found things for the USB version of the same headset. I've opened up the case and checked that all ports that can be are connected to the MB and checked that nothing is on mute etc. I'm at a loss as to where to go from here and would greatly appriciate any help
