The recent PC re-release ended up being 3GB large--well over the 2GB limit Apple imposes on iOS games.
Sell the game as three entities ala it's original form as three discs, sell as FFVII Chapter I II and III to get around the file size limit (split the price up fairly though across each one).
Any FF7/PS1 experts in here know what's taking up all that space?
Any FF7/PS1 experts in here know what's taking up all that space?
tons of cgi movies.
Any FF7/PS1 experts in here know what's taking up all that space?
A lot of content.
(split the price up fairly though across each one).
This is Square Enix we're talking about here
Any FF7/PS1 experts in here know what's taking up all that space?
Square Enix is talking about the re-released version which I've got no experience with but with the original PC release the space taken by all the game's FMVs was literally ~66%.
If you delete the movies you end up with a 300~ mb game IIRC.
so why cant it fit on? phones and tablets have a lot of space nowadays.
so why cant it fit on? phones and tablets have a lot of space nowadays.
Apple imposes a 2GB limit on games on its platform.
tons of cgi movies.
H264 compression isn't better than what they had for the PS1?
Quick examples of the space the FMVs take up and a randomly selected video file for reference: [t]http://u.cubeupload.com/jechtman/9eaCapture.png[/t]
H264 compression isn't better than what they had for the PS1?
they could easily re-encode it to be 1% of that size so I don't think space is really a legitimate issue. [editline]14th October 2013[/editline] on a sidenote I literally just completed the steam version of FF7 10 minutes ago (and got all the ridiculously grindy achievements), what a coincidence.
I've already finished FF7 and FF9 on my phone using an emulator.

Also, why are there two achievements for getting Yuffie? (That are awarded at different times by the looks of it?)

And the greased lightning achievement is for using her first limit break, the description is just wrong apparently.
It's okay Squenix, my phone already has A PS1 emulator that could play it flawlessly.
Any FF7/PS1 experts in here know what's taking up all that space?
Original set was three discs or about 2.1gb of textures, audio, data and video in barely 240i resolutions for the Playstation. After you upgrade textures and up the resolution you can easily double the size of the game.

The amount of prerendered cutscenes is the only reason the game shipped on three discs. (a couple of small possible reasons are that they wanted to prove a statement about the N64's game cartridge capacity at the time and a selling point of "THIS RPG IS SO DEEP IT NEEDS TO BE CONTAINED ON THREE DISCS")
I tried to do that but gross touchscreen d-pads are godawful.
I don't think so, you rarely have to use anything other than the dpad, and since the combat is turn based you can easily keep up with commands.
Why is Square so deathly terrified of making money?
