• GPU Fan goes crazy!
    19 replies, posted
Sometimes, often several times each day, the fan of my GPU goes completely crazy and my screen turns black. (I have the AMD Radeon HD 6870) I've searched other forums and tried to google the issue at hand, but I've never gotten an answer to why this is happening at random times. Extra information: I haven't upgraded any drivers, as there aren't any new ones. I have a "Chieftec 850W" PSU. Please, any help or tips would be great.
Do you have to restart the computer to "fix" the issue? Could be graphics drivers crashing, that's exactly what happens when my Nvidia cards drivers crash.
Well, yeah. I have to restart the computer. Sometimes the fan goes crazy a few seconds after the reboot, sometimes after an hour or six. But I haven't had this problem before, and I even tried formatting my pc to no avail...
Has it always done this?
Nope, I forgot to mention that this started happening about a week or two ago. It has happened before, half a year ago, but it stopped happening after a while. Dunno what fixed it though.
Open your case and check for dust in the heatsink.
Just check if your Case fans are turned the wrong way.
Open your case and check for dust in the heatsink.
I checked and dusted off some dust, let's hope this helps...
Just check if your Case fans are turned the wrong way.
They're not, but thanks for the tip :)
Check your load temps. Sounds like the card is overheating, driver is crashing as a result causing the card to power cycle and reboot causing the video card BIOS to do the normal fan cycling.
My 6870 used to do this before I cleaned it, fucking reference 6870s, piece of shit cooling.
LALALALALALALALALALALALALALALAL *BOOOOOOOOM*
Funny how many that says that... Are Chieftec really that bad?
Funny how many that says that... Are Chieftec really that bad?
It's an IED. Well, most generic brand PSU's are.
Funny how many that says that... Are Chieftec really that bad?
Yes, they are.
Sorry for the long wait, but it took a while to get the Dust-Off can delivered. Anyhow, cleaning the Graphics card didn't seem to work. Changing the PSU however did work... Which I find rather saddening because the only one I had lying around was a old one that makes ALOT of noise D: Oh and I'm never buying Chieftec again. I guess we can say this issue has been solved, for now. Thanks for all the quick responses and tips for how I could solve them! Cheers, TahMahn
Oh and I'm never buying Chieftec again.
no, the lesson you learn from this should be don't buy any shit PSU
no, the lesson you learn from this should be don't buy any shit PSU
*sigh* fine... Now where did I leave that guide to which brand I should and shouldn't buy...
Just check if your Case fans are turned the wrong way.
Stay out of HW and SW subforums.
Stay out of HW and SW subforums.
You don't know the context so just shut your pretentious mouth son! It was just a horrible joke. Much like your attitude.
