I've had my computer for about 2 - 3 years now and everything has been fine up until recently.
Every now and again, when I load up a game, the FPS will be halved or really low, it's not a HUGE problem, because a hard reset fixes it, but it's annoying. It's never happened before, but I just want to know what the cause is and if there is a fix.
It happened last night. I got home about 4pm, turned my computer on and played games with friends (as you do) I played a few games of League of Legends, Team Fortress 2, etc etc, was fine. But when I played another game of League of Legends last night, the FPS was low (5 - 15).
So I had to reset, and then the FPS was fine again. (60 Constant)
I've tried updating GPU drivers, reinstalling the GPU drivers incase of a bad install, disk defragment, scan for viruses, CCleaner, Disk Cleanup, a whole load of things.
It isn't a heat issue either, I checked the CPU and GPU temperatures and they're normal (30 - 50 degrees)
If anyone has any idea as to what is causing this, then let me know. It's been doing this for just under a week.
Thanks.
Ok this is really strange, what GPU do you have?
Checked the power settings? Might be on Power save mode.
My GPU is an nVidia GTX 460.

This is a picture of the settings in the CURRENT state. Switching to High Performance mode and awaiting results.
Just a question: I had my power settings set to balanced, and now I changed it to high performance. Is it recommended to use balanced instead of high performance?
High performance the better.
No FPS drop yet, and I've played League of Legends and Unreal Tournament 2004.
I'll keep it posted.
There's a possibility that your GPU is throttling.
If it is, why would it happen now? Why not when I first got it or sooner?

I dunno why some have a habit of doing that.

Well, up to now, nothing out of the ordinary. No lack of FPS at all.
I'll give it a few days though.
