I'm trying to determine what preset is the best to use on a program between:
1. MP3 Old Standard 192 (192Kbps, 44100 Hz, Stereo)
2. MP3 Extreme Quality (VBR, 48000 Hz, Joint Stereo)
The file size between the two is minimal. What concerns me is the CBR vs. VBR, sampling rate and joint vs. non-joint stereo.

That was literally my very first thought.
Why is the old standard deprecated (#1), it seems so much better than VBR. But then #2 has a higher sampling rate and joint stereo, which is supposedly better.
#2 but then 256 and beyond that is what i prefer.

It's a widely accepted standard, supported by many players and rather open-source.
