Didn't Quake 3 have Linux and Mac support on original release? Other than that, yay, I can finally get over my hate of playing things in browser.

I'm pretty sure the web plugin they used before worked on mac and linux as well

yeah, it's pretty much just universally a better choice to just play Q3A. a real damn shame that people have moved over to quake live at all
I thought the entire point of Quake Live was it being browser-based. They might as well just make Quake 3 freeware now.

Why's that? I haven't played Quake Live in ages so I have no idea anymore what makes it inferior to Quake 3.
one of the other reasons why they decided to make a standalone client is because most "longterm" users were already using qlprism anyways, and all that was was just a heavily modified, outdated firefox browser using greasemonkey and lots of plugins. the outdated version had security loopholes people could bypass and abuse and they didn't want that to happen.

honestly, it would be great to go back to quake 3 arena because of the restrictions placed on playing without subbing for a pro account on quake live, but the playerbase just isn't there.
either ways, both games have its pros and cons.
I'm pretty sure all the quake games are empty, cause everyone moved to quake live.
Maybe this will allow for gibbing?
