I have an old motherboard, and I need to know the best parts for an an old AGP motherboard. I can't tell you the exact specs, but to give you a rough estimate, it can't run Magicka.
Give us specs, because that really tells us virtually nothing. AGP is pretty old. You could be running a Pentium II for all we know.
I am.
I am.
Guess what Magicka requires? A Pentium 4. You could be running anything at or below that and we would have no clue if you would even be able to upgrade it.
I was running an AGP rig till earlier this year. The main problem is you, usually, can't get a REAL dual core CPU to run on those boards. Mostly everything recent really needs at minimum a dual core. Not one of those Pentium Ds either.
For videocards, an ATI 4670 is about as good as you're going to get.
The HD4670 is a good chip if you need minimal DX10 use, but the rest of the system is probably too slow to make use of DX10 anything. I think the best card would be a 7800GS, you can get them pretty cheap on ebay from time to time.

AGP motherboard doesn't tell us anything other than the motherboard having an AGP slot.
This:

Plus this:

means we have no idea what the fuck to expect with this motherboard so we can't help you.
Download and run this:

then post screenshot.

I will install my 4650 in my Pentium II rig in the morning and tell you how well it runs Magicka... Probably XP's pinball before though.

So I have just found out that 1.5 Volt cards do not fin in 3.5 volt slots as pictured below.

Christ, my AGP rig is still running windows 98se with a Radeon 9200.
Get a 580 GTX w/ i5 2500k and you should be good for magicka.
Try keeping up with technology.
I should just mail you a Radeon 9600XT.
It would be cheaper to buy a whole new PCIe mobo and new parts rather than shopping for AGP parts.
they're expensive.
Not to mention, it's really not worth upgrading something so old for playing video games on.
Look into one of the LLano + mobo combos from newegg, it will serve you better in so many ways

Can I have it instead? I'm stuck with onboard graphics and an AMD XP 1800+, 512mb RAM and can't even run GMod :(
If you're wanting to make a usable PC for gaming purposes out of it, using that motherboard alone is going to be a mistake. New PC parts are relatively cheap and offer a good upgrade path. For example, a sandy bridge celeron for $56 will work fine now, though you can jump up to a 2500k later on if you find yourself needing the power. DDR3 is super cheap, $13 for 2 GB. Motherboards are about $50-60, a video card would be about $75 and allow you upgrade later. Power supplies are around $60-70.
Or you would be spending about 3/4 of the price of new components to get compatible, slow, old components with no upgrade path at all. I made that mistake once with my old PC and topped out at a 3.4 GHz P4, Radeon X1950 Pro, 1.5 GB RAM and an 80 GB hard drive. It was a pretty shitty PC and I spent too much money trying to get it upgraded over the years when it was outdated before I spent a dime.

I am shocked to hear people still have single core procs with AGP cards.

Well I'm shocked to hear these people wanting to play games and whatnot. Get a new system, just save up your lunch money for 2 months lol.
I got 2 P4s and one of them as a 9200SE and it runs Orange Box just fine at 800x600 medium at 50fps.

800x600 on medium is not just fine in 2011.

Up until like 3 years ago, I was still seeing gamers playing on old ass machines that didn't even have sound cards. Christ people, you can go to thrift stores and pick up a used P4 rig in the 2.8-3.4 GHz range for like $40, and don't forget craigslist.
playing on old ass machines that didn't even have sound cards
Unless you are in the top 10 in the world at CS:S, a sound card will do absolutely nothing for your gaming experience.
He's including integrated sound I think. I.E. no sound capability at all.
Well.
Here is what I know.
You can get a dual core HD 48 something card off of saphire for AGP for about 100-120$ so there is a decent card.
And the most memory I have found for AGP mobos is 4gb, never ran into a 4Gb stick of DDR 400mhz
You can also get a Pentium 4 1.6-3.8ghz I think.
Thats the best I can think of, oh and you might want to get a PCI sata raid card so you can use newer hard drives.
But honestly, the price it would cost to buy this stuff would just equal purchasing a new computer.
Seriously, I just got 8gb of DDR3 to add into my laptop for 30$ off amazon, you're probably not gonna find DDR for anywhere around that, and god save you if you have rambus.

Hey, is that Eva-01?
holy shit all of you are retarded
why waste money upgrading a probably 10 year old rig
