• Asus P5Q3 Deluxe not booting

I got an Asus P5Q3 Deluxe motherboard, a Q6600, and 2gb DDR3 PC3-8500 from a friend but when I try to boot I gets to the starting Windows then it freezes and reboots. I can enter BIOS and the built-in OS thingy Asus included fine but it's Windows 7 that's not booting up. I did remove all driver before using the new mother board to avoid any possible trouble. if you need it there are my older specs and my newer specs. according to newegg, RAM specification is 1600MHz RAM... hmm post a pic of your BIOS RAM settings
1600? my friend said it was 106mhz6 (which what he gave me since they were just laying around) but he was using 1333mhz when he had it,
are you running it @ 1333?
and I"ll post the Bios in a minute, I'm on the built in OS right now. [editline]12:44AM[/editline] [QUOTE=whatnow V2;21830403]are you running it @ 1333?[/QUOTE] don't know
I have a bad feeling your RAM is misconfiguration, and you wasted your time reinstalling windows you -> :smith:
would buying new RAM be a good option?
no see if it will be fixed first [editline]08:01AM[/editline] if it can*
I made a video, the overclocking error just ranomdly appeared and it seemed to be a one time thing. [media]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wm1dYuPFqhc[/media] [editline]01:08AM[/editline] I can't find the RAM setting in BIOS.
should be under overclocking/voltage changing [editline]08:14AM[/editline] how long does it take to install steam on crossover? 30 minutes?
ok, I'll look there.
Try to reset the BIOS if you can find such a setting in BIOS
I didn't see any set mhz, everything was just set to AUTO.
[QUOTE=whatnow V2;21830429]I have a bad feeling your RAM is misconfiguration, and you wasted your time reinstalling windows you -> :smith:[/QUOTE] What? if he had bad ram or a bad set up he'd be unable to even get to the bios, so far the RAM is either fine or 'usable but not stable'. Newegg isn't always the best place for specifications, you go to the manufacture website OK WIN7 not booting on NEW mobo? You have to boot WIN7 and do a "repair" that should fix it. Then do some memory checks
I did the "repair" and that did nothing.
Your RAM is fine [url]http://usa.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=diRYz5oR6oCEgWLw[/url]
and it's not a NEW mobo, it was used by freind for a while and he just gave it to me today.
[QUOTE=Makol;21830837]I did the "repair" and that did nothing.[/QUOTE] Then you're in a pickle [editline]03:34AM[/editline] [QUOTE=Makol;21830854]and it's not a NEW mobo, it was used by freind for a while and he just gave it to me today.[/QUOTE] No, in relation to you it's 'new', When you get a new mobo you HAVE to either reinstall windows or, if I'm correct, repair that should solve the problem if nothing else is wrong
[QUOTE=Craptasket;21830857]Then you're in a pickle[/QUOTE] :frown: and it was working fine the other day before I got it. everything else works but Windows 7, I'm even typing this from the built-in OS thingy.
[QUOTE=Makol;21830879]:frown: and it was working fine the other day before I got it. everything else works but Windows 7, I'm even typing this from the built-in OS thingy.[/QUOTE] That's pretty cool actually. Just to check, the mobo actually recognizes the HD? you said you attempted repair so that should be yes. ultimately you might have to format and fresh install windows 7
I did a fresh install, still nothing. [editline]01:40AM[/editline] and it does recognize the hard drive. [editline]01:42AM[/editline] I just noticed the hard drive light an my case is blinking, wtf does that mean? [editline]01:44AM[/editline] the flashing light has something to with hard driver activity.
So check this -have ONLY the harddrive as boot device, so unplug your cd drive -HD plugged into "SATA1" on your mobo -connections double checked (precautionary) -HD set as first boot (which should be) -check if there no settings on for raid, that'll tamper you from booting normally sometimes. -hope for the best, check if it boots [editline]03:51AM[/editline] You might want to double check stuff like having your HD set to master and review your HD itself
I'm starting to think the hard drive is the problem, literally everything else works fine.
Got a spare HD to test on?
nope, all of them are being used. I can go buy a cheap 80gb and test with that.
Just a hunch, try booting totally normal without express gate on or anything fancy
I'll try that. [editline]02:12AM[/editline] BIOS froze :ohdear:
Been looking around, people seem to have messed with the DRAM clocks on their new mem kits on this exact mobo in order to boot into windows. You can also try finding a BIOS update [url]http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=191848[/url] read around meanwhile, boot into win7 cd and use the memory checker/tester
seems like I need DDR3 1333mhz RAM
Get a 4gig kit, I've read up this board will overvolt on the DIMM's just a bit, try setting your current ram to 6-6-6-22 if it's a factory of CAS 7, if originally 9 then don't try too it's a dumb trick but people used it to boot into windows (2x)2gb 1333mhz DDR3 RAM, CAS of 7. get corsair brand or what you see works in that link to that forum I'd pick up a brand new HD too, a WD caviar black, or SG barracuda
