So I'm considering getting into making small games, since there is fuck all else to do down here, and I've heard RPG Maker is a good way to learn the basics, grow some teeth, and overall friendly for newbies. Problem is, which one should I get? I keep hearing that XP is a good one to start with, but I'd like to hear your opinions.
So what RPG maker should I get, FP?
look into Game Maker. its a little bit more complicated than RPG Maker, but its waaaaaay for versatile and powerful without going all out in a full sdk like unity or unreal.
look at it this way, eventually you'll have to script for rpg maker to do anything substantial. game maker also has a scripting language, but is still way more flexible and versatile in what it can do. either way you'll have to do scripting, so why not go with the stronger program from the get go?

I remember playing around with Game Maker when I was 9, I used to make the weirdest shit with that. Ontopic: http://www.rpgmakerweb.com/
VX Ace or MV would be the only one's worth getting really since they have the most features available. Going with Game Maker instead wouldn't be a bad idea too
As someone who uses RPG Maker, its very specific in what it accomplishes, and that is making classic jrpg style games. Don't get me wrong, it is very good at what it does and a lot can be done with it pretty easily, but if you want to branch out to different genres, it is going to become more of a hassle than with a program like GameMaker.
Unless you are 100% sure that you want to be making that style of games, it isn't that good of an investment, even starting off. However, if you want to try it, there is a free trial for the newest version (RPG Maker MV) on the official site if you want to see if its for you. MV is very solid, but its the most expensive and is still being updated.
Otherwise, yeah, stick to GameMaker.
GameMaker it is then. Hope I can ascend past the learning curve effectively
