Samsung finally lets Galaxy users disable the Bixby button—to an extent

I have a paid program disabling bixby outright
fuck this app, its bullshit. i hate having things interrupted by an accidental press.
its even worse that I have home on one side and bixby on the other.
The bixby button would be amazing if you could customize it. For example, one press to open a music app, long press to use bixby and a quick double press to open settings.
I really hope Samsung goes this route. I don't mind a button being there as long as it has some customization functionality
I've long since used bxactions to remap it, fuck samsung trying to foist their unfinished garbage on us while perfectly suitable alternatives could replace it and function a hundred times better. :/
the bixbutton's placement on the s8+ is garbage too, it's level with the power button and tends to get squeezed now and again when I'm just turning it on or off, moreso when I have a case on the phone. I used the remapper app when it first came out because the app was barely functional in the first place, but turned that off when they added more features, like the kind-of-important voice input functionality. Still a clunky piece of garbage that lags my phone out for a few seconds as it tries to load tiles for the feed. It feels like it's just a third party google home clone in early development. I can appreciate if s korea needs a program with this functionality, but we've got ghome standard on our OS and google pretty densely integrated into our lives in the west and forcing bix app's presence on the new phones is obnoxious
the worst thing about it is that remapper apps still don't fix the placement of the button and work pretty shittily themselves by way of how they work
that and they can randomly decide to stop working
OkGoogle works so much better. Last I tried bixby it could not even do basic math of ALL THINGS

OkG can even convert currancy and measurements and tell you your current location, the time, show you the nearest taxi services + give you the phone number + show you when they're open, it can open apps, send you a route to the pub, tell you how old a celeb is, give you stock info, pronounce and define words, make calls, set timers and alarms, set your calendar, create reminders, control settings on your phone, translate languages, and this isn't even stretching it. Siri can do these things to (Don't know how much) and they don't have google's search engine or googles maps.
what can bixby do besides things your finger already does

I mean this argument could be applied to every voice assistant. You can do all of those things OKG does with your fingers and the pre-installed web browser.

the thing is that OKG does it way way faster. Bixby does it no better than doing it by thumb. Bixby also tries to be all in one place in a way that's convoluted. Google for me is literally just a search tab.

My thumb and Chrome Mobile are about 98% more reliable than OKG. Last time I tried anything voice activated was an equation of some sort and it ended up looking for videos on the Great Wall of China.

it helps to not have a Scottish accent

I never often have issues with voice because I speak clear and it works well for me

I speak clearly as well and still have never had any success with speech recognition. I'm also not sure why you mentioned scottish accent, I live 50mi from Nashville and have never been out of the US.
And, hell, even if it was reliable I'd prolly still turn it off just so it doesnt randomly google swear words while I'm at work. My phone is bad enough about misinterpreting my wallet for my thumb as it is, last thing I need is a google search history full of 'Schiesse' and 'what the fuck', which is the soundtrack of someone trying to work on a Mercedes Sprinter.
