I haven't played the MK series since the N64-PS1 era of gaming - but I thought Brutalities were a staple of the MK franchise. Why did they go?
Sub zero one is so underwhelming and tamer than his fatality even. Hope that changes in final release.

Fatalities were. Brutalities are different from the finishing moves, but only in execution and popularity. Still plenty of gore.

To be honest I wish they were still rapid combos, though maybe instead of making the opponent explode you'd simply beat them to a bloody pulp. Right now they're just fatalities without shifting camera angles.

The exploding into ribcages refers to the original brutalities, they were always fatal.

Vs DC Universe had "Heroic Brutalities" which weren't fatal.

The Flash had one that was similar to MKT's Brutalities, minus the exploding into 7 skulls.
