I am not really sure why people trust kickstarter anymore, the only thing I have ever seen come out of it is a gigantic flop.

Check out Wasteland, its going somewhat according to budget, schedule and promised features.
To be honest, I'm really fucking psyched for it more than most big titles.
Isn't "The Witness" basically a Myst game?

Or atleast shares some of the same properties.

After Myst came out the market was flooded with knockoff Myst clones. Mysterious Journey is one of those bland knockoffs, as is Schism. Most died off when publishers cut back on low budget products but every so often one sneaks through.

So because you don't like this game, its a low production rip off?

FTL, Giana Sisters, Xenonauts, Kentucky Route Zero all came from Kickstarter and aren't flops.

Photorealistic adventure/puzzle games exploded after Myst. It was the big thing in gaming much like how FPS is the big thing now and just like then there's a lot of shitty games in the genre.
So is this a shitty rip off is what I'm asking you.

No.

it's not a ripoff if the creators are making a new ip in the genre it fathered. Like how chris roberts make wing commander and has star citizen. Or richard garriot has shroud of the avatar.

it seems similar but the apparent problem with the witness is that it's dependent way too much on one main mechanic (i.e. the maze puzzle thing) whereas the myst series were focused on environmental puzzles where all the elements to solving a puzzle where laid out straight in front of you and you sort of had to make sense of it on your own. myst, to me, was kind of cool in the fact for a point-and-click adventure/puzzle game you didn't have to do any pixel hunting at all, but there was a lot of trial and error so yeah.
i hope the witness is good though considering i wasn't the biggest fan of braid
