Hi! So I am getting a new GFX, I want an upgrade from the current 4850 GS I have. But the problem is, my PSU is rather small, only a 400W one (http://komplett.ie/Komplett/product/ZKB_01COM/29_PSU/01_PSU/productdetails/15404885/Corsair_CX400W_Power_supply_%28_internal_%29_/CMPSU_400CXEU/default.aspx) Therefore I am having a hard timee finding a suitable GFX. Then I stumbled upon this (http://komplett.ie/Komplett/product/ZKB_01COM/10_GRPCARD/04_PCI-E/productdetails/20056780/eVGA_GeForce_GTX_460_Graphics_adapter_GF_GTX/768_P3_1360_ET/default.aspx) Can someone tell me can the PSU handle the card, if not can someone suggest me a better GFX to get? Thanks Kingbob
From the description on the graphics card: Recommended Power Supply: 450 W [editline]10:25PM[/editline] You would most likely have some minor power issues, depending on the rest of your PC I guess.
I was reading some reviews for the PSU, and I found this. http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/Corsair-CX400W-Power-Supply-Review/750/8 Should I try going ahead with that, or choose another card/get new PSU? @ShinyChrome If it helps, here's my spec. 400W is fine for a 4850, don't worry OP
@Zedo Mann, I'll talk to my dad about it, I might be able to. @FINLEY Bad reading?
400W is fine for a 4850, don't worry OP
He is upgrading to a GTX460. @OP you'll need at least 450W as stated before.
Thanks for the advice guys, but can someone suggest a card to me that I won't need to upgrade my PSU for and is better than my 4850? Thanks.
List the rest of your specs OP [editline]10:48PM[/editline] If they're not too high then a 5770 may be alright
No hes fine you idiots. The GTX 460 uses only 250w on load, OP, you'll be fine, its risky, but it should work.
@xxncxx Oh really? Or should I not risk it and get a 5777? http://www.amd.com/us/products/desktop/graphics/ati-radeon-hd-5000/hd-5770/Pages/ati-radeon-hd-5770-system-requirements.aspx
The rest of your specs please
What other specs do you want?
5770 draws around the same amount of power on load, so you should be fine. But to be exact, could you please post a picture of the voltages? Should be a sticker on the side of your PSU.
If you really have the CX400W, then there should be no problem.
He is upgrading to a GTX460. @OP you'll need at least 450W as stated before.
Those requirements are over-estimated to cover people with shit brands. OP has a Corsair PSU, and Corsair is a pretty damn good brand
